The trials of life..

In life, we have gone through one challenge or the other that at some point, we were tempted to quit because things was looking like you have got to a dead end but we kept on pushing not minding and in the end we had a well deserved victory because we never gave up.

From my own understanding, “Quit” means to give up on something or loose hope on a particular thing that you have been chasing for a long time. Like the popular saying goes, “quitters never win and winners never quit”. As an individual, I always try to use this short quote to motivate myself to keep pushing harder.

Most times, we quit when we’re on the verge of our breakthrough. Then imagine how disappointed you will be when someone just put little effort to something you have been working on for decades and he achieve it and take all the glories, You will feel so disappointed in yourself.

So, before we go into something, make sure we are ready to go the extra miles to get your results without quitting. Whenever you think of quitting always remember that Thomas Edison had 1,000 unsuccessful attempts before he created the first light bulb.

I have shared several stories of how I bounced back from several challenges I encountered during my school days and on Steemit. Todays story will be about my big sister who refused to quit on her educational career despite the challenges she went through.

My big sister gained her first admission into the Rivers State University of science and technology around 1999 and we were all happy for her. In fact, whenever we travel to the village, you see elderly men and women, using my big sister to set as a good example for their female child to follow.

Then one day, the devil struck and my sister was withdrawn from the university on the verge of her graduation exams. My parents couldn’t believe what they were hearing, my sister was just crying and couldn’t give any reasonable explanation. My dad had to go to her school himself only to find out that she was withdrawn from school because of her WAEC exams. She passed other subjects but she failed one of the core subjects, “English Language”. Surprisingly, they didn’t find out about this during first clearance, it now final year clearance, they are bringing up this topic after a lot has been invested in her education.

While she was trying to recover from that shock, her fiancé who proposed to her for marriage just ended the whole relationship all of a sudden. She was so devastated. A point came when she said she want to commit suicide by Jumping inside a well. It was quite funny remembering the scene of that day. We all knew she can’t do it, it’s not in our family to even think to that point no matter how bad we feel.

Well, as months passed by, my dad and mum turned to her therapist. Everyday before they go to work, they will come and comfort her and try to encourage her to forget about the past and go back to school but it wasn’t easy for her. She finally dust herself up and went back to write her WAEC exams and she made English language but gaining admission into the university was now hell.

She decided to leave the shores of Nigeria, gained admission into one of the schools in UK, paid the necessary school fees but they won’t agree to give her visa at the embassy. Her chase for visa took almost 3 years of her life, yet she could not leave the country and was still a school drop out.

It was looking as if nothing was just favoring her. During those years of waiting to gain admission into the University, she did IELT exams and a computer program called “ORACLE”, hoping it will create a soft landing for her to get the visa it still didn’t work. Went into another relationship and was jilted again. All this made her to pause her life for a while. You hardly see her go out, no socializing, just at home and always going to church. It went on for almost a year but at last she finally listened to good counsel and she got admission into the University of Port Harcourt

Well, I’ll say whatever curse that was stopping her from entering the university was finally broken. My mum told her, since this visa stuff wasn’t coming forth, why don’t she try Nigeria university again while she pursues her visa to UK. She finally listened and it didn’t take long she gained admission into the university.

She never stopped trying. Despite the plenty challenges she was going through, it did stop her from going ahead with her education. Although, the UK school was were she had always wanted because she was ashamed of facing her old classmates in Nigeria but she didn’t allow that hinder her when she finally started school.

The best part of the story was that she finally met her husband while she was still in school. Sometimes, I wonder, if God’s hand was in this whole delay because I can proudly say she married the best of husband. If she had gone to abroad, she definitely wouldn’t have met her husband. They have been together 14 years and still counting with 3 lovely kids. She never gave up on love and she never gave up in her education. In the end all glory to God.

Like the Bible says:

weeping may endure for the night but Joy comes in the morning.

So, for those who are feeling betrayed by loved or are going through one challenge because of school don’t quit. A time will come when people will want to to mock you of your situation, just hold on to God.

Secondly, don’t isolate yourself because lots of crazy thoughts will be coming to your head when you’re in your down moments. You need people around you to communicate with you and tell you that everything is going to be alright.

Listen to good counsel. It took a very long time before my sister decided to listen to advice to try out Nigeria university again. Because of been stigmatized by probably her friends or people from the village, she wanted to leave the country. Finally she listened to the advice of picking up a JAMB form and trying out again in Nigeria and she immediately got the admission.

Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. Stay strong, keep pushing forward, and never give up because there is light at the end of the tunnel. Though it might not seem rossy at first, never give up because in the end it will all be worth the struggle.
