NYSC IN Nigeria, the aims and its effects on national economy

Good day great steemians all over the world, it is my pleasure to be back again after a short break. I am happy to resume again with the unique community "steem4Nigeria". In this article I will be writing about the National Youth Service Corps. ''NYSC'' and it effects to the National economy. The National Youth Service Corps was established by the government on 22nd May, 1973 under the administration of General Yakubu Gowon.

The aims and objectives of the NYSC was to rebuild, reconcile and reunite the Nation after the civil war. To achieved this, every corps members was to be posted outside his/her State of residence to another state to enable him inculcate love, peace and unity to the people and of his Primary place of assignment and it's environment. Since there were inter-tribal posting in the country at large. The fear of security threat was reduced and the unity and love among the citizens was promoted.

The common challenges facing the NYSC include the posting of corps members. The members of the NYSC comes from different works of life, different professions, at such the was need for them to be posted to their areas of interest, but because of the limited number of industries, some were forced to practice in a strange field outside their areas of interest. Some were sent to schools to teach even when they were not teachers oriented, and that brought a lots of fallen syndromes to the school system. The Nation's despite the allowances allocated to the NYSC have in turned boasted and saving the national treasure. In terms of institutions, the corps members has mostly filled up the vacuum which the government would have spent to employ teachers by taking up the task during their one year compulsory selfless service to their mothers land.

The National Youth Service Corps played an important role in Nations building, upholding peace and unity among its citizens. It can therefore be concluded that the government should consider the NYSC as an important tools for unity andpeace keeping in Nigeria.

Having highlighted the common challenges facing the NYSC. The government should provide the necessary amenities needed and also do well by posting each member's of the NYSC to their areas of interest to enable them put in their best as they are discharging their duty.
