Currently I am on leave and I am in my home district Rajshahi. Today I will tell something about Puthiya Rajbari, a heritage place of my district. Jaigagula is a sign of extraordinary beauty.

Let us tell you some things about this Puthia, the Puthia dynasty was established during the Mughal emperor Akbar in 1556-1605. At that time Puthia was in the middle of Lashkarpur pargana. In 1576, when Mughal Emperor Akbar's subedar Mansingh invaded Bengal, he fought with the Afghan Lashkar Khan, a Jagirdar of Puthia area. Later in this battle, Vatsacharya, the first son of the Puthia dynasty, who ran an ashram in Puthia, helped Mansingh with his wisdom, Lashkar Khan was defeated and Mansingh was victorious. For this, Mansingh gave the zamindari of Puthia area to Vatsacharya.

Vatsacharya settled the zamindari in the name of his son Pitambar instead of taking it in his own name. Pitambar increased the size of the zamindari. When Pitambar died childless, his brother Nilambar got the zamindari. This continued and later Hemantakumari Devi was conferred the title of "Queen" by Lord Curzon in 1901 and "Maharani" by Lord Irwin in 1920 for her many good deeds. After his death, the Puthiya dynasty gradually disappeared as the movement against the zamindari system took place in the country.
