Hello guys, welcome to my entry to this beautiful contest by @ruthjoe. In this contest we are to talk about the various ways the government of our various countries do spend the country's funds. This is such an interesting contest, if you missed the contest announcememt post kindly find it here.
In the context of this contest, we will be talking about a couple of points. And I will be talking about my observation so far as a Nigerian citizens as regards the spending habit of the Nigerian government.
Tell us one thing in your country you believe the government should spend money on but doesn't.
One of the responsibilities of the government towards her citizens is to protect them, make sure their is peace and unity and at the same time provide them with the basic amenities of life.
But I have realized that in Nigeria, the reversed is the case. The government expects everyone in Nigeria to care for themselves and protect themselves and provide themselves with basic amenities, it had not been a funny experience at all.
Employment Opportunities:
There are lots of things the Nigerian government are supposed to pump money into to help better the lives of the citizens, but they are not doing it. One of such things is employment opportunities.
In Nigeria, there are lots of unemployment cases. Those already in employment are loosing their jobs, while those graduating from school year after year, doesn't have a job. People graduate from school and carry files from year to year without any job. It had gotten so bad that the President had to come to the national television to tell the youths that the country doesn't have any plan of providing them with any job opportunity.
This is one of the reasons why we have high rate of frauds, kidnapping, armed rubbery, prostitution and all kinds of negative things among the youths. It's not really that most of them enjoy those activities they found themselves into, but because they were left with no choice.
Tell us one thing they shouldn't spend money on but do.
There are lots of things that the Nigerian government shouldn't spend their money on, but they keep spending consistently on those things. Most times I use to wonder who is always advising this our government to always take wrong decisions.
Printing Of New Naira Currency:
Source
One of the huge waste the Nigerian government did this year was printing of a new currency (200, 500 and 1,000) naira notes. For goodness sake, there was no need of a new naira note, and there was no difference between the old and the new naira note apart from the colours.
The Nigerian government spent huge amount of billions printing those new currencies, it was so devastating. And the effect on the citizens was another tragic topic on it's own.
Is the government of your country good at providing its citizens with social amenities? Tell us about the two best social amenities you are enjoying in your country.
I am still trying to remember if there is anything called social amenities in Nigeria, because I am not enjoying any. The Nigerian government doesn't care about their citizens and their welfare, so there is no provision for social amenities in this country called Nigerians.
Nigeria produces crude oil and the rest, but we buy fuel at a very high rate and most times it's even scarce. The issue of electricity that citizens are supposed to enjoy is another tragic story on it's own. Most of the roads are so bad, fuel subsidy on the high side and the prospective government is even planning to remove the subsidy entirely. The education system is nothing to write home about.
Which should I mention and which should I leave. The current situation of Nigeria and the treatment of the Government towards the citizens is nothing to write home about. Even as I am writing this contest, it's so paining me. I'm just trying to pour my heart the way I could here.
So basically in Nigeria, everyone create their own world. Either to source for a way to help themselves positively or negatively.
Conclusion
Nigeria is blessed with lots of natural resources which is supposed to be used to better the lives of the citizens of Nigeria, but the reversed is the case. Instead the leaders are channelling the money into the wrong things. We are no longer surprised with the negative decisions the Nigerian government keeps taking, it looks like a norm now. But we believe that some day, there will arise a better and new Nigeria.
I also invite @ruthgold, @thomisin and @okere-blessing to come participate in this contest.

It's interesting you brought into the limelight what the government in Nigeria should spend their money on and what they shouldn't spend it on. Imagine the cost of producing new naira notes and ordering that old ones be banned. I saw no reasonable for printing new notes which made life hard for the masses. If they had ventured the money they spent printing old notes into something profitable, I bet there would have done something worthwhile. Anyways, thanks for sharing. I'm impressed by your choice of words
