Contest Alert: Opportunity Comes but Once

Good day, Steemians, I'm excited to be here again and join the contest organized by @lhorgic with the topic: Opportunity Comes but Once. Follow me as I share with you my thought about the statement.

Opportunity can simply be defined as a favorable time, occasion, or situation that one can seize or use to do something one wants to do or have to do for a great and positive outcome. Some circumstances seem to be an appropriate time for us to do or achieve what we have been thinking of doing, and doing it at that time leads to success and happiness because we can use the opportunity in a good way.

Yes, I agree with the statement Opportunity comes but once because some great opportunities only knock on one's door once, and if we do not seize the opportunity and act on it quickly, we might lose them forever and it might not come again.

Not all opportunities come back and if one lost the said opportunity and it comes back in the future, one might not be eligible for it because of some criteria such as age and other requirements.

No, I don't think the statement is misleading because many great opportunities do not come twice, and the statement to me is a word of advice telling us to seize any opportunities that come our way and make good use of them because such opportunity might not come again.

Though not all opportunities are worthy of using this statement for, some opportunities used to come at a certain time, and we are aware that if it goes now another one of them would surely come back soon, but some opportunities have no certainty of whether or not it will come again and the best option is to grab it whenever it comes.

Some people might think the statement is misleading because they do not understand the statement which makes them have it interpreted in another way. Some people used the opportunity they have in a cunning and unfaithful way because they think once it is lost, they won't be able to use it again. Many destroy their good reputation all in the name of I have the opportunity now and I must use it well for myself.

Yes, I have a personal experience with the statement "Opportunity Comes but once" and my experience goes thus. In my first year in Senior Secondary School (SSS1), on a Monday morning, our vice principal called me and four of my classmates to her office and informed us about an impromptu interschool competition, where we and other government school students in our town has to meet and compete.

I am an introvert and I don't appreciate being in front of a crowd or being the center of attention, so going for the said competition which I'm not prepared for, also being the center of attention and facing a lot of people seems like an impossible mission to me.

The competition was organized by one politician in my town and it usually comes once in 3 years and the winners will be given a fund of #5,000 naira yearly for 3 years to support the student. When I heard of the prize, I felt like it was worth going for because our fee then was just #500, and with this prize, I can buy some textbooks that I needed and give the rest to my mom to support her, so I don't want to miss the opportunity because if I decline now when the opportunity comes again, I would not be eligible as it's only for SSS1 students and I would have finished my secondary education the next time an opportunity like this would knock.

To cut the long story short, we went for the competition and I was part of the winners, and the prize was increased to #7,500 yearly for the 3 years. I was so happy because I made good use of the opportunity, I collected the money, bought the textbooks I needed, and gave the rest of the money to my family.

The funniest part about it was that our competition was the last one organized by the team as the sponsor stopped financing it after our third year.

If I were to rephrase the statement, the new statement will be, Treasure all opportunities like a jewel because some come only once in a lifetime.

An opportunity like I said is a favorable situation in which one is being chanced to do or achieve what he/she has to do or what to do to add more value and success to one's life. Though many opportunities do come our way frequently while some only come once and once it's lost, one may not be able to get them again, and the best thing to do when such an opportunity comes is to seize and make the best use of it.

Many misinterpreted how to make use of opportunity because of their greed and hunger for power, then use the opportunity they have unjustly and at the end of the day destroy their good name. To avoid misusing opportunities, when one comes, we need to clarify our goals, knowing what we want to do and achieve, that would guide us from diverting, also opportunity might come as a challenge, we have to prepare ourselves at all times and bring the best out of it.

Do not misuse opportunity for others that are coming, treasure all opportunity that comes your way greatly because it might not come twice. Thank you for reading.
