Good morning fellow steemians @steem4nigeria , it's a blessed day I want to share my diary on 6th January 2025 how I spent my day processing palm oil at the mill.
Most of us know that agriculture is one of the major source of income of the Nigerian, so today diary is mainly about my busy day at the mill, it was fun and it turn out been helpful to my grandparents because there was plenty hands from me and my cousins to support and process the palm oil at the mill .
The preparation of the palm oil started on 5th January, though it was just some minor task like setting the drum that will be used to cook the palm fruit, cutting firewood that will be used to cook the palm fruit, then packing the palm fruits inside the drums and then fetching water that'll be used to cook the palm fruit
On 5th January during the day ,my grandma asked me to help her cut some firewoods using the axe so that she will use the firewood to cook the palm fruit and I didn't say no to her ,so i went inside and crapped the axe to cut the firewood into smaller pieces . Though it has been long I did that.

Then am done cutting the firewood
Then I was sweating 😅 cause I was tired though |
So after I was done with the firewood I rested shit ,then during the evening time my grandma called me and my cousin to come out so that we will go and turn the palm fruit inside the drum and also go the stream to fetch water that'll be used to cook the palm fruit, below is the pictures of how we were packing the palm fruit inside the drums and going to the stream to fetch water
we started by carrying the palm fruit closer to the drum so that it'll less stress
Then gathering them at one spot closer to the drum
turning the Palm fruit inside the drum from the sack
Me pouring water inside the drum
We all went to the stream 3 times each of us to put on the drums, after we were done I went to the bathroom to take my bath and it was already getting dark ,so before we slept my grandma had already cooked the palm fruit so that cooking of the palm fruit won't be another wasting of time the following day and thank to God the mill is ours.
Oh here 6th January 😱,all glory to God Almighty, so as we all woke up early in the morning around 5:30 we went for morning prayer at my church (Church of Christ) which is a normal rituals to us and it's always for 45min to 1hr at most , as we came back my grandma went to the kitchen to warm the left over food in the pot so that we can eat and have energy at the mill.
After we were done eating,I went to start bringing out the cooked palm fruit inside the basin so that it'll be transferred to the mill where it'll be smashed .

Then I was assisted by my relatives |
After the little assist came in I told my cousins that we should start carrying the palm fruit to the mill where it'll be processed, and below is the pictures we were carrying the cooked palm fruit
transferring it inside the smaller drum to ease stress
covering the cooked palm fruit so that it won't get cold |
So after we finished scooping the cooked palm fruit closer to the engine for smashing, it was left to start the engine and start smashing it. So my cousin was in control of starting the engine
he's about starting the leister generator

As y'all can see on the pictures I've been uploading so far ,in the palm oil mill there are different types of machines that will be used to process the palm fruits to Palm oil, the first one will be the smasher. The smasher is used to smash the cooked palm fruit into chaff so that the oil can be squeezed out
The smasher | |

Removing the already smashed palm fruit from the smasher
Carrying out the chaff for space
Filling the squeezer so that the chaff will be filled for oil to come out
And the squeezer is filled up |
So after the chaff was transferred to the squeezer, the squeezer was fixed and my cousin bruh started squeezing out the oil by turning the handle of the squeezer.Tge squeezer is another machine at the mill, it's used yi squeeze out the oil from the chaff.

The oil coming out from the basket to the gutter of the squeezer
And then to the basin |
So at this point out oil is out and the remaining Palm fruit was still being smash by the smasher and after a while the oil in the basin was filled up so my grandma asked to come help her turn the oil inside the gallon
Me and my grandma turning the oil into the gallon
The oil looking so fresh, ready to be used for cooking |
So while we were in the meal my aunty prepared cocoa yam and we decided to use the fresh oil to eat the cocoa yam , which so sweet and delicious 😋 😋
So after we were done eating it was getting late already,so my grandma and I started moving the chaff from the squeezer close to the selector which will be selecting the kernel from the chaff

Taking it close to the selector |
So after we were done carrying the chaff close to the selector my cousin turned on the leister generator again because it was turned off while we were done using the smasher. My cousin was in control of the selector,he was just taking the chaff inside the selector so that the kernel will be selected from the chaff.
My cousin controlling the selector by pushing the chaff inside the selector from the upside |
The selector have two side , the first side is a bit smaller and it's to bring out the kernel from the selector while the other side is wider and it's to bring out the chaff from the selector.
The side that's bringing out the kernel
The side that's bringing out the chaff |
As the selector was selecting I was to pack up the chaff because it's useful as well, the chaff is always used to make fire for cooking when it's dried and it makes the fire to catch faster.
It was getting dark already so we were hurrying so that the darkness won't cover us and while I was busy packing the chaff my grandma was busy at the other sude with the kernel
And finally we finished with everything and it was just left for us to tidy the mill and move some stuff inside but fortunately we had 2 and a half gallons of palm oil and my grandparents were so happy with it. And then everything was set to place but I was stained all over with oil so had to freshen up before going inside. So after I was done taking my bath I went inside and my aunty had finished cooking my and our food was already dished inside the plate,I took my plate of food gently without stress to my room and ate up,after then i decided to go through sime messages on my phone so that's how my day went
I was about making this type of post because I witnessed palm oil processing in my village. Now you have also made the post I will wait patiently for the fresh oil. Don't forget to bring for me while coming back to town.
