Introduction
Hello my beautiful country people, how una dey?, I trust you are all doing great; make sure to keep believing in you, for you have the power to change the narratives.
Thank you @steem4nigeria for organizing this accelerator contest on "parental enforcement of decisions on children". This is a very thoughtful topic I must commend. And I'm still your girl @tripple-e.
But before I start sharing my thoughts through the contest questions, I want you to note:-
What is parental enforcement?:
Parental enforcement to me is/are the actions that are taken by both parents and guardians to ensure that their children/ wards adhere to their rules, regulations, boundaries and even met their expectations. While on their parts; they made sure to provide love, support, and possible encouragement for good behavior as well.
Please Note that:-
Parental enforcement should be balanced by applying love, understanding and support that would make the children to develop into whatever personality you'd want them to become in future.
Then; what is Decision?:
Decision is a conclusion or the final choice you make after you must have considered many options and you decides to settle for one for the aim of solving a problem or reaching a specific goal.
And then; who are the children?:
I call them "the future generations", people who would inherit this earth and then shape and impacted on it.
And I also called them "the offsprings", that is the biological sons and daughters of a parent; the ones they gave birth to.
👉Do you think it is okay for parents to influence the decisions of their children?
Yeah! It is very okay and normal for parents to influence the decision of their children because as a good parent; they want what's best for their children; so that can make them be on the lookout for them.
I don't think there's any parent who would want their children to repeat the same mistakes they made or to go through what they went through in life. As such the joy of every parents is to see their children excel and to even become better than them; that's their earnest prayers.
So don't blame some of them when they tend to be manipulative just to see their children go or walk the paths they expected.
👉During the time of marriage or when deciding a course to study in school, what is the place of parents in giving their children guidance?
I think these two especially marriage are very personal thing for a parent or whoever to decide for another.
My opinion is; allow your children to make their decisions in matter like this please; I feel out of place for a parent to choose a life partner for their children, for crying out loud this is a life time decision and it's a matter of the heart but in this part of the world; in some places though, some parents would force their children to marry against their wish just for their selfish interest and gain.
Please that's archaic refrain from such I take God beg you. Put into consideration your children's happiness.
Instead you can do better by advising, guarding and supporting them to make right decisions instead of imposing yours on them.
👉Can a parent actually misguide their children in decision making?
Of course! A parent can actually misguide their children in decisions making although sometimes it is not intentional.
This can happen through ;
• Lack of awareness; A parent can misguide if they don't have proper understanding and knowledge about a certain career path so as to guide their child's decision appropriately.
• A parent can misguide through projecting their own desires by pushing the child towards their own aspirations instead of the child's interest and dreams.
• A child can be misguided by a parent through them passing their own biased perspectives to the child that can limit the growth and exposure of the child to different viewpoints.
• And also a parent can misguide by making decisions based on their fears which can lead to overprotecting the child and too much caution that can suffocate the child.
👉Do you have any experience of your parents enforcing decisions for you against your will or experience of someone you know ?
No. My parents respected whatever decision I made; they didn't influence it in anyway but they instead adviced, guided and supported me.
But I know of a friend who experienced her parents enforcing their decisions on her especially the father.
There was a young man she fell in love with and the man wanted to marry her but he didn't have enough as he came from a humble background; and unfortunately the father was very sick and needed a huge sum of money to undergo surgery but there was no help anywhere. And
Then there was an elderly man who was also on my friend's matter wanting to marry her as well seized the opportunity and paid for my friend's father surgery; so in order for my friend's father to express his gratitude, he asked the daughter to accept to marry the man as a compensation for his kind gesture towards the family, can you imagine, at the expense of my friend's happiness.
So just to pleased the parents, she traded her happiness for the father's health and wellbeing. Do you think my friend can ever be happy in that marriage for the rest of her life?. I felt pity for her but there was nothing to be done about it.
I appreciate your time, thank you
I invite @missyleo @loolluv @yaladeeds to take part.

Rather than parents exerting so much influence on the marriages of their children, they should focus on conducting compatibility tests between the children of both parties in the marriage. This would help to draw a balance.

I have an experienced, my father enforcing decision on me, though I was happy to do that for him without knowing that it will tell on me later on...
And now that their decision has really affected my career.🥲

Parents enforcement of decisions on their children may create tension in the home and disrupt existing peace in the home. This why parents should carefully observe the roles they play at certain stage of children's growth.
