Let me share my idea on this topic.

Debt is simply something that is owed. It could be money, properties, goods or services. Debt is like being in bondage, imprisoned and trapped. When a person becomes a debtor, he is like a slave, he has no voice of his own.

Debt is more like living someone's life because that won't let you go free until you pay your debt. It's like serving someone almost for eternity. Debt has taken a lot of people to their early grave and still destroying families and relationships.

Even the Bible despise debt, it talked about being in debt which is wrong. Debt turns the mighty into a nobody.

I have and that was a very long time ago. I had a dinner party to attend to but I didn't have what to wear so I asked my sister for her dinner gown and she promised to give it to me on one condition which was that she will eat my portion of meat from each meal for one week, hmm, this was too much but after a long thought, I agreed.

The next day, I borrowed the gown to the party and when I returned home, it was time to pay my debt. I had to start that night to pay my debt of meat for the next one week. It wasn't funny, but I managed to pay it off to avoid being a debtor.

It is true that I have helped a lot of people in the past that never appreciated it. They felt it's their right to be helped. I don't even know why some people should be helped, because the way they feel after being helped amaze me.

When I was in school, I helped a young lady with what to eat, what to wear and even took care of her son because she was a single parent. I would run some errands for her and other stuffs but she saw it as her right and was becoming too demanding of me as though I owe her.

One faithful day, this lady came to me for help. She said she needed some amount of money to solve a problem and I agreed to loan her but I asked when she would repay and she said in two weeks time. I gave her the money and she was happy.

Two weeks after, she began to avoid me. She would wake very early in the morning and leave the compound and return late at night. I noticed this movement for another two weeks and decided to wait for her no matter the time.

When I finally met her to ask for my money, she asked me if it was because of that small amount of money that I had to block her from entering her house, I was shocked! This lady help my money for two months and counting and she never paid.

When she finally agreed to pay, the money was coming installment. It was a terrible experience and I wouldn't want to experience it again. Helping people sometimes can be very dangerous.

I think the best way to retrieve debt is to get involved some debt collectors because some debtors don't like peace and they don't like to be pampered but when they see that you are out for them, they pay with ease.

Another way can be through prayer, yes it works. There are debtor who are very wicked and devilish. They would owe someone and still plan evil for the person to forget what they owe, is that not wickedness?. To retrieve such debt, you need serious prayers for God to intervene.

You can also go to the court and get them involved, maybe try dragging the debtor to court but this would cost you some money after all. But in all, prayers retrieve debt, it works for me.

As the case may be, instead of a problematic debt to end up as disaster, it's better to let go and have your life to yourself.

There was this young man who traveled aboard to make ends means. He struggled so hard to make money and finally he did made money. He decided to get his elder brother involved to assist him in building a project back home while he sends in money.

Whenever he calls, his brother would tell him that everything is going on well and the project is pushing hard. He kept sending in money and hoping that everything was going accordingly.

After about one year, this young man decided to return home to face his investment and handle things himself. He returned home only to find out that his brother has been deceiving him all this time. He didn't use his money to develop anything, he was busy investing his brother's money into his own business and opened up another business for his wife.

This young man was so devastated when he returned. He became a shadow of himself, he didn't know what to do because each time he remembered how he suffered to make the money, he would cry and his brother never bothered to pay back or help him stand.

For peace to reign, this young man swallowed up everything and let his brother be. He met with his friends to help him stand again but it took him years to get back to his feet. This was a very heavy decision for peace. Not everyone would do this, I doubt if I can do it, but I think it's just the best thing to do, since the Bible said we should seek peace and pursue it.
