Opportunity comes but once

Do you believe that opportunity happens but once? I believe that there are countless opportunity one can meet in a lifetime. In the same manner, there are special opportunities that only happen once in a while, when you least expect it, and if you are not ready for them, they will pass over, never to be seen again leaving you in regrets.

Opportunity is something that takes place for an individual to be able to take an action and achieve something.

The statement is in two phases. It is true but also not true. Everyone’s destiny is different. While Mr. A might lose the opportunity to go to school and start struggling all through his life, Mr. B can also lose his opportunity to go to school but along the way, as he advances, another opportunity might present itself for him to go to school. That opportunity is always there for Mr. B does not mean it will be the same for Mr. A.

That is why you would often see people who lost their once-in-life opportunity fill your time with tales of their past glory, it is likely that you will hear these statements in their tales,

“if you knew me before, you will not be saying what you are saying”

“if only I had taken that chance”

“don’t make the same mistake I made”

Notwithstanding, one should take a careful look at any opportunity that comes along so as not to miss a life-changing one and also not make the mistake of ignoring or misusing a present opportunity with hopes that there will be another opportunity tomorrow, because it may backfire. I believe that every little opportunity one gets now should be properly utilized because it is a means to train the person for a better and bigger opportunity tomorrow in the future. If you cannot handle an opportunity given to you now, what is the assurance that you will handle it well tomorrow?

While some believe it is misleading, remember I said it is in two phases. Some people in a bid to avoid missing an opportunity make bad decisions that they live to regret later in the future.

It only depends on one’s understanding of the statement and the kind of opportunity they meet. Even if you miss an opportunity and get another, you only succeed in slowing down your progress because the opportunity you have at the moment to do greater things will be stalled because you will use the moment to do what you were not able to do previously in a bid to catch up and meet up with the present. When you don’t make good use of present opportunities, you won’t be able to handle what life throws at you, you will only succeed after you have paid a double price.

Using the 10 virgins in the bible as a case study, 5 foolish virgins missed an important opportunity because of a foolish decision they made which caused them to miss a once-in opportunity.

Looking at it from another angle, a girl got admission into the university but unfortunately, she had no money to follow through, help later came in form of an old man with 3 wives already who wanted to sponsor her education, her parents and friends urged her to go ahead with the arrangement that such opportunity can only come but once. The man had the money and can sponsor her education to any level, but she couldn’t go through with it. Because what was the essence if she doesn’t have peace for what she wanted? Eventually, another opportunity came when the government sponsored a few girls from their community to further their education.

What I will always tell people is that they should equip themselves with skills, knowledge, and people, so that they will not meet an opportunity unprepared. You don’t know when and how it will happen. If you will accept or reject it, it is up to you. Just be able to discern which is good for you.
