Fashion Design: Martha Vargas' jewelry designs

One of the topics that I am most passionate about is design, design in general, and more when it surprises me, and that is the case that I share with you today, that of the Mexican jeweler Martha Vargas .

With a training in the textile and fashion industry of more than two decades; Martha Vargas trained as a designer at the School of Design of the National Institute of Fine Arts of Mexico, specializing in jewelry design and later at the Scuola d'Arte e Mestieri di Vicenza in Italy.

Inspired and attracted by the virtuosity of the Mexican artisan tradition, of which she grew up surrounded since always in her native Michoacán, she has an unmistakable style in which, with the support of artisans, she has silver as the main material, which integrates inlays of wood, bone and other materials.

Her work has two main aspects, which she has turned into a couple of collections that she takes out every year. One of these always has an important geometric component, so it tends to be more abstract and sophisticated, and the other is usually based on more traditional motifs of crafts such as flowers, fruits, plants, birds and fish.

Her successful career has led to her being invited by institutions such as the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and the governments of the states of Guerrero, Zacatecas and Michoacán, to teach design courses and workshops to master craftsmen from Mexico.
