Hey Netflixers
So I've been watching Ozark season 3 on and off for the past few weeks and I finally got a chance to sit down and finish the third season, perks of being under lockdown. Everyone's favourite badass accountant Marty Byrde is back and trying his best to keep his double life a secret as he risks life, limb and family to keep his Mexican drug cartel employer happy with continuous cleaning of dirty money through various laundry operations.
The show has had 2 solid seasons which I really enjoyed and I was pretty amped to check out the third season of a show that has been a stand out over recent years.

What is Ozark Season 3 about?
In the Ozark Season 3, we're dropped in right after the events of season 2 with the Byrdes expanding their legitimate empire by getting their Casino up and running in Missouri. Marty knows while this is a big play and can attract a lot of attention its what's needed to push through the amount of cash he needs to clean and has to play it close to the chest as the FBI remain on his heels.
Things never go smoothly for long and his ambitious wife starts to make plays without his consent and her mentally ill brother also decides to drop in and complicate life for Marty. We see a man who is normally poised and calculated pushed to the brink and how he needs to remain calm and continue to pivot his ay out of every situation.

What I thought of Ozark season 3
Season 3 starts out great and is just as interesting as the other two, as we see Marty try to expand his empire while juggling his Wendy and Helens ambitions to be Navarro's go-to for all business decisions. As the scale of their operations they naturally expand onto others territory, they're employer has a gang war to deal with and the FBI are hot on their heels which all makes for interesting ideas to explore.
It looked all good and well until they had to bring Wendy's brother into the picture. The character was such an unnecessary distraction and e was horrible for this show and put season 3 in the wrong direction. It just goes downhill into a sappy, soap opera with non-stop bawling, hysterical moments where you want to smash your head against the wall, just not aligned with the cool taut atmosphere the show had managed to create.
They give too much screen time and importance to Wendy and her bipolar brother Ben and gets super annoying after a couple of his bipolar episodes..that the show becomes about him in the end. Marty the main character we want to see is just hanging around like a useless clown as every supporting character continues to make the most idiotic decisions you could possibly make given the situation at hand and what is at stake.
My rating for Ozark season 3
The series dragged on and some of the episodes felt more like filler which is a shame in a 10 part season. I feel it should be snappier and get to the point when you don't have that much run time.
It seems to me as if the show is starting to lose elements that made the first 2 exciting and fresh and are starting to bring in elements that make a social and political statement, like female representation in places of power and of course mental health. It doesn't feel like it fits into the story at times and I don't want to be taught someone else's idea of life lessons when trying to watch a show.
Ozark is still a well made, tightly written show that is a victim of its own success by setting the bar too high for itself. Hopefully, the next season will regain the focus and practicality that made the first so riveting.
It's a solid series and I'll give it a 7 bribing therapists out of 10
