Life's NO Secret #18 | Have you tried Vietnamese Rice Cake

I've always found it amazing that each time I visited the local market near my home, I'm bound to find something new & unique. Sometimes, it may not be new, just that I haven't really taken much notice in it before. Today, I'll like to share about this eatery which I've seen each time I walk along this street, but never walk towards it before. Maybe because there's always a lot of people queuing up and I felt a bit awkward not being able to converse and make my order. Not to mention, I wasn't sure what they were really selling.

Having said that, I had the chance over the weekend to go and check it out. There weren't many people standing in que; only a young man on his motorbike and another middle aged lady. With that, I managed to get a closer look on what was being cooked.

A middle aged lady sat in front of a round flat hot plate and a low side table where all her cooking ingredients were placed. On the hot plate were rectangular shaped rice noodles being fried with oil and there was also eggs and what seemed to be salted vegetables. All cooked together. somehow it looked very similar to the Carrot Cake that we have back home in Malaysia. Until today, I still don't know what it's called although there was a sign board that hung on the wall. Even with Google Translation, none of the words reflect this dish.

There were 2 helpers which whom I spoke to one of them. Using sign language, I raised my finger indicating one and said the work Một which means One. She asked me a question which I only recognised the word *Ốc meaning Snail. I replied Vâng meaning. In my mind, I silently hoped that I ordered it right. Since no dining is allowed, it was a take away order for everyone.

Reaching home, I opened up my breakfast order which was packed in styrofoam box. It was garnished with slices of pickled cucumbers and spring onions; with a spicy soya sauce. As I started to eat it, I came to a conclusion that this was indeed very similar to the Carrot Cake back home. Only a bit less saltier as compared to what I'm used to back home. My breakfast cost me VND 24,000 = USD 1.02 = MYR 4.46. Absolutely affordable for the local folks and for me too.

It's true that the simple things in life is what that's important. Nowadays, being able to dine in a coffeeshop is luxury; especially after the social distancing for over 22 days. I can't wait to go out tomorrow and enjoy a bowl of Pho 😁

Life's NO Secret is all about sharing; and it can be anything at all. Be it related to health, wealth, lifestyle or education. Sometimes, secrets are not really secrets. It's just that people don't talk about it or it's just been put aside until it becomes a topic to B****** about it. It could be anything under the sun; good, silly, fun, stupid or bad to some extend.

Life's NO Secret is an inspiration of my own in which I hope to share with all of you. NO Secrets means NO Lies. Just plain simple facts.
