Rise and Fall (Music Themed 5-Minute Freewrite Challenge)

Not all singers become superstars, nor even someone who had a hit is considered as one. The rise to superstardom isn't easy for a recording artists, while others become an instant superstar. If you are already a superstar, there's what we call the rise and fall, and possibly rise again. In fact, an artist's contribution to music industry is highly recognized, and they don't have to prove themselves.

Let's look at some artists who had gone through rise and fall phase. Mariah Carey is one of them who debuted strongly for scoring number 1 hits in 1990. During the entire decade, she has sold millions in each of her albums, and had hit singles. In 2001, her meltdown might have been considered by many as the start of her downfall. Her album and movie both entitled "Glitter" flopped, despite the number 2 single "Loverboy". She attempted for a comeback in 2002 with "Charmbracelet" but with moderate reception from fans. As she returned in 2005 with "The Emancipation of Mimi", it became the resurrection of her music career as it went multiplatinum, and scored another two number 1 singles. After that, she doesn't need to prove anything. She's still respected despite lukewarm reception on her subsequent albums.

Maroon 5 was seen to be one of the top artists of 2004 through their hit album "Songs About Jane" along with hit songs such as "This Love" and "She Will Be Loved". Their second album "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" was still a hit despite the failure to match their first album. Their 2010 album has been thought to be their downfall, and even frustrated the band members. But releasing "Moves Like Jagger saved their album experiencing a surge. The band continues to produce hits, though they are considered to be singles artists.
