Pets In Families

Greetings friends of @Gems

Dogs and cats are increasingly incorporated into families and often become the main source of affection, warmth and joy in a home.

We had times when social changes happen quickly. Families today, especially in big cities, face the challenges of contemporary life, where responsibilities are increasing and time seems increasingly scarce. Meanwhile, the relationship between man and animal has also changed a lot. It is clear, for example, the growth in the number of companion dogs relative to guard dogs, or the preference for small dogs over large dogs.

Obviously, this behavior leads us to think that the restriction of space in the houses and the option of living in an apartment are the main factors of this change, however, contrary to what it may seem, the behavior of families influences significantly .

Dogs and cats are increasingly incorporated into families and often become the main source of affection, warmth and joy in a home. They do almost everything their owners do: they lie on the sofa, watch television, sit at the table, sleep in bed and go with their owners everywhere. It is not difficult to find, for example, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and shopping malls that accept and adapt to the presence of our best friends! All this represents a change in behavior and can be seen as a progress of society: it is even possible to measure the degree of development of a nation, among other parameters, by the way it treats its animals. Read some of the benefits of this "faithful friendship" for children below:

  • Increase self-esteem, confidence and disposition.
  • Develops the capacity for expression and motor coordination.
  • Helps reduce shyness, improves creativity and concentration.
  • To the correct extent, develop your sense of responsibility.

However, of course there would be a catch, it increases our responsibility towards them.

As our relationship with pets grows closer, we end up incorporating human behaviors into them, making them more demanding, anxious, and unaffected. Therefore, we must think hard when it comes to buying a pet, taking into account the reality and routine of our family. A dog or a cat at home completely changes our daily life and this change must be for the better, and for that we must think about the following aspects, mainly:

1 - Will we have time to dedicate ourselves to them?

Dogs need to walk! Almost everyone waits for those "sacred" minutes of the day, and many spend all day waiting for the ride. Twenty-minute walks twice a day are usually enough to promote the daily dose of exercise that most dogs require. However, some breeds are hyperactive and require much more. In the absence of physical activity, they become depressed, anxious, and, in some cases, aggressive.

It is not uncommon to serve dogs that suffer self-harm due to stress and boredom.

Therefore, for families that do not have this sacred time for dogs, it may be preferable to buy a cat, which is much more lazy!

2 - Will we know how to educate them to be a good company?

A dog must be a source of pride for its owners. There is no more unpleasant situation than the family pet dog that receives our family and friends with barking, marked territory behavior, fear or aggression.

Each dog, with rare exceptions, has the potential to be an excellent companion, just knowing how to educate him, set limits, correct inconvenient attitudes, and reward him for good behavior. A simple example is not letting the dog grab the couch or our bed. Dogs must and want to have their own shelter, their own walk. This simple boundary shows you that there is a separation and a hierarchy within the home and that you need it to be psychologically healthy.

3 - Will we have resources for food, health and hygiene expenses?

Dogs live, on average, 15 years and cats can reach 20. With age comes the responsibility of the owners to ensure the healthy growth and development of our companions. Quality food, frequent hygiene care and veterinary follow-up are essential for a healthy life. This maintenance generates costs, and when they get sick, it can be a problem for the family.

Anyway, reader friend, a pet at home brings us joy, company and peace. Let's take care of them with fidelity, dedication and unconditional love, because they certainly do it for us!
