Do you want me to take you to another amazing place again? Yes? You don't have to ask me twice 😊

Last Sunday we went to one of our favorite places nearby our home.

The Rheinau monastery island is a real gem in the Rhine landscape.

To get to the island that is situated in a double loop of the Rhine River, you will have to cross this charming bridge.

I was very lucky to take this shot with no tourists crossing the bridge or boats passing by. The landscape around the island is idyllic so there are many tourists visiting this place every day.

Rheinau Abbey (Kloster Rheinau) was a Benedictine monastery in Rheinau in the Canton of Zürich, Switzerland, founded in about 778 and suppressed in 1862. It is located on the island in the Rhine. The documented history of the village began with the establishment of the monastery.

From 1603 until its dissolution the abbey was a member of the Swiss Congregation, now part of the Benedictine Confederation.

Created according to Vorarlberg Munster scheme, the magnificent altars of the Rheinau church and monastery immediately catch the eye on entering. Focus of the church is almost immediately apparent, namely the Virgin Mary. An amazing work of art in which the ceiling frescoes, painted by Ticino-born Francesco Giorgoli, have preserved their original freshness throughout the years. https://www.myswitzerland.com/en-ch/klosterkirche-rheinau-monastery-church-rheinau.html

The brilliance and richness of the magnificent interior of the baroque building are overwhelming. The monastery church is one of the most significant Swiss sacred buildings.

Unfortunately it is forbidden to take pictures inside of the church. I have tried it but I got caught and kindly asked to follow the rules 😊

The Musikinsel -famous monastery hotel is situated on the island. It was opened in 2014.

Look at the majestic tree in front of the former monastery.

My husband was relaxing on one of the cute benches in monastery garden while I was taking pictures.

Walking towards the other side of the island I spotted this clear reflection in the water. This is my favorite picture.

You can't walk around the island as there are monastery walls from one side. The last point that you can reach is this chapel. I was walking in that direction as I know that there are always swans behind the island.

Here you go! This fellow was not even distracted by a boat full of tourists coming 5 minutes after I took the picture. They are so used to people and boats that they just don't even bother to swim away when the boat is coming. The boat had to stop and change the direction slightly. It was so funny to see the power of the swan! 😊

On the way back to the monastery you get to see a little church on the hill above the village.

Not so perfect reflection after a boat passed by.

We went to the monastery restaurant and enjoyed the view from the other side of the island. The water of Rhine river is so crystal clear.

Before we went back home we parked the car on the top of the hill and enjoyed the stunning view one more time.

You can buy a bottle of good wine from this vineyard in a local wine store.
