Hello creative community,
Here is drawing number 02 for the Picnic Time series that I am trying to complete for my 5 Days Of Drawing Challenge. Yesterday was about baguette and cheese and today I thought I would draw a picnic basket. This is a female mouse character but basically it looks like the one I did yesterday to maintain that uniform look.
These are some of the work in progress photos:
What I want to achieve at this stage is define a female mouse character. I thought that the clothes would be enough to set that image but I was wrong. I had to tweak the face of the mouse just a bit to give it that feminine characteristic. I think it worked.
On this final line drawing I can tell that the eyes look gentle I like that. One big struggle for me are the hands holding a basket. It is difficult working with hands and much more portraying them at an angle. The basket is fun to draw and it was much easier.
The base colors. The mouse is dusty purple but this must be lighter just or pale just to differentiate it from the first one. The scarf was blue initially but it doesn't work well with the color of the mouse. The sweater is supposed to be orange but it didn't look good. The red pants is muted but changed it to vibrant red as it gets bland and boring. I'm not sure at this point if I made the right decision or not but I had to meet my deadline.
As always the last part is the easiest because everything had been decided upon in the previous steps. Here I just added some shadows and highlights. This is the easiest step and plays a crucial part in defining the final look of the drawing. Hope you like it.
