I am on self-imposed quarantine this weekend, as the authorities have advised against going out for anything except essential travel.

But this morning I went for a walk in my yard to get a bit of exercise and some sun.

This is a Filipino Tree Orchid, which bloomed recently. The Filipino Orchid is a unique variety of orchid due its color, and structure. It has very large leaves and it’s buds, flowers and stems are all bright pink. This is such a bonus because the buds are beautiful to begin with and then they turn into beautiful pink flowers. These are Phillipino Orchids from the island country of The Republic of the Philippines. These are different from your usual orchids because orchids usually have thick main stems and small thick leaves, so it needs to be watered 1-2 times a week, if indoors and more often if it’s outside in direct sunlight. In contrast the Filipino Tree Orchid has very large thin leaves and very big flowers, which need a lot of water daily.

This is a bird of Paradise. A lovely -last found only here in Hawaii. It’s a bright orange, with red and blue. I am happy that it is also in bloom and ready to be photographed. These are relatively easy to grow. Just weed the area around them, and supply water and sunlight.

Next a pretty yellow ground flowers. These are very pretty and provide excellent color contrast with the green grass. These are very hearty and strong. They survive only with rain and sunshine. The thicket of green they grow from seems to retain enough water that they survive with only 3 times a week watering and they are healthy enough to flower.
