If you look at the word signcryption and think in your mind that it looks like a word that was gotten from the combination of the two words (signing or sign) and (encryption), you thought right, signcryption is cryptographic mechanism that simultaneously signs and encrypt a digital message.

By using a mechanism or cryptographic protocol that is able to simultaneously sign and encrypt a digital message, the world of cryptography and blockchain networks can be assured of increased or enhanced security and efficiency.

Signcryption will also be able to change and enhance certain features and protocols in the blockchain network especially regarding security, in this post today, I will be discussing and explaining some of the significant and major effects signcryption is likely to have on the blockchain network.

  • It Enhances Security

Enhancing and improving security is one of the significant and major ways in which signcryption is impacting and affecting the blockchain network, basically owing to the fact that it is able to perform both the signing and encryption action on a digital message in just one step or action, it has proven to be a very advanced and robust tool that mechanism that provides air tight security.

This feature of authenticating and securing a message in the blockchain network simultaneously makes it literally impossible for attackers to compromise the the integrity of the message seeing as there is not delay in the process of signing and encrypting the message making its contents unaccessible to any unauthorized party or individual.

  • It Improves Efficiency

Efficiency can be simply be defined as the measure of the degree of productivity with respect to time for a given task, so take for example the task is to sign and encrypt a digital message in the blockchain network, before the signcryption was introduced the traditional cryptographic signatures will first sign the message before it is then now encrypted.

But by using signcryption the time that would have been used to sign a message and then send it out to be encrypted would better be utilized to simultaneously sign and encrypt more messages and also reducing the computational stress of performing this two taks separately.

Additionally, this effect of increasing the efficiency of the blockchain network can by signcryption can be considered to be a significant and major effect because it goes a long way in helping certain blockchain networks increase their throughput and overall performance.

  • It Enhances Privacy

Majority of users and sectors adopted to the blockchain technology into their network because of it offers promise of privacy and it gladdens my heart to see it is non challant with this promise seeing as it continues to provide different innovative protocols that ensures privacy, take for example the protocol or mechanism known as the signcryption is one of the advanced cryptographic protocols that ensures privacy.

How the signcryption works or ensures enhanced privacy in the blockchain network is by making sure that no one unauthorized party or individual can gain access to the contents of any digital message or transaction it ensures through its fundamental feature that it is impossible for any data let alone the senders identity be compromised.

This increased and enhanced privacy can prove to be very beneficial and significant in the blockchain network when implemented in applications that facilitate voting systems, making them confidential seeing as the identity and the records of their votes is kept secure and unaccessible.

  • Simplifies The Key Management Processes

Owing to the fact that the processes involved in managing the different keys used for different purposes in the blockchain network can computationally stressful, it is then safe to conclude that simplifying the process of key management is another significant and major effect of signcryption on the blockchain network.

Proper management of cryptographic keys no matter how many they are is very important and non negotiable therefore it is a good thing that signcryption was introduced to help simply the process, it does this by eliminating the need for different keys for both signing and encrypting a transaction.

By doing so, signcryption has been able to reduce the stress of managing two separate keys on both the computer and on the individual or node in charge of managing the keys, it has also reduced the potential or possibility of a like lossing of ones keys.
