I know what you’re thinking……..
……….that’s not an agate and you’d be right! That’s a very colorful Hoof Fungus from the archives that kind of reminds me of some agates I’ve seen. Here’s another colorful Hoof.
For a little bit of information on agates, here’s what Grok AI has to say:
Agate is a variety of chalcedony, a cryptocrystalline form of silica, which is commonly found in volcanic rocks. Here are some key points about agate:
Formation:
•Geological Origin: Agates form in cavities within volcanic rocks or other host rocks. When the magma cools, gas bubbles can form cavities. Over time, these cavities get filled with silica-rich solutions which solidify into agate.
Characteristics:
•Appearance: Agate is known for its fine, uniform banding, which can be in various colors including blue, red, black, white, and brown. These bands are concentric, often forming beautiful patterns.
Translucency: Agates can range from translucent to nearly opaque, depending on how densely the silica has crystallized.
Hardness: With a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7, agate is relatively durable, making it suitable for use in jewelry and decorative items.
Types of Agate:
•Moss Agate: Contains mineral inclusions that look like moss or plants.
•Fire Agate: Contains layers of iridescent limonite, giving it a fiery appearance.
•Blue Lace Agate: Known for its delicate, lacy patterns of blue and white.
•Dendritic Agate: Features fern-like patterns due to manganese or iron oxide inclusions.
Uses:
•Jewelry: Due to its beauty and hardness, agate is widely used in beads, cabochons, and other jewelry pieces.
•Decorative Items: Sliced and polished agate is used in decorative objects like bookends, coasters, and ornamental carvings.
•Healing and Metaphysical: In alternative healing practices, agate is believed to offer various benefits, such as balancing emotional, physical, and intellectual energies, and promoting strength and courage.
Locations:
•Agates are found worldwide, with notable deposits in Brazil, Uruguay, Germany, Mexico, and the United States (particularly in Oregon, Utah, and Arizona).
Collecting:
•Agate hunting or “rockhounding” is popular, where enthusiasts look for agate nodules in areas known for their deposits, often along rivers or in volcanic outcrops. Once found, these nodules are cut and polished to reveal the colorful banding inside.
Agate’s beauty, combined with its availability in diverse colors and patterns, makes it a cherished material in both the geological and artistic communities.
Grok left out one location: NW Washington! On one of our hiking trails, there is an area just loaded with them.
Given the coloring of these particular three, I might would say they are of the fire agate variety. Very cool. Perhaps this spring I’ll delve deeper into our agate source and see what I can find!
I spent part of my day roasting coffee for a customer on the east coast.
The beginning process: green coffee…….
The almost finished process….rich and dark and delicious!
I had to go to Bellingham to do an Amazon return. @silvertop had purchased shoes I’d wanted at Christmas but they weren’t good for my feet. So we returned them and after much research, I’d finally decided on a different pair. Unfortunately, they were just a little too short for my toes’ liking, so they needed to go back. Once we get the refund, I’ll reorder one size up.
While out, we got some bolts he needed as well and then got a coffee. The Starbucks we’ve been going to was a disappointment today. They refused the 200 degree request on our coffees. They’ve never done that before. Unfortunately, we walked away with tepid coffee that quickly went to cold given the outside temperature. For me, this could be a deal breaker in the future. If I wanted cold coffee, I’d order it that way! 🙄
Here’s Cot in one of his favorite places! 😻
Yesterday, @silvertop asked me to have Grok AI generate a mountain lion with a bitcoin. This was one of 4 results. As you can see, he carries it with him, lol!
That’s gonna be it for now. Take care and enjoy the rest of your day wherever you are! 🙏🙏

NLT Proverbs 2:1-11
My child, listen to what I say,
and treasure my commands.
Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures.
Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
For the LORD grants wisdom!
From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
He guards the paths of the just
and protects those who are faithful to him.
Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair,
and you will find the right way to go.
For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will fill you with joy.
Wise choices will watch over you.
Understanding will keep you safe.
