Waterman!............. NW Cascade Wanderings

Waterman! That one word brings back summer childhood memories. When I was growing up, our water meter was inside the house in the ‘furnace closet’ which was like a closet which housed the furnace, the hot water heater and the water meter, much like you see in the next photo.

Once a month, the man that worked for Cincinnati Waterworks, would be in the neighborhood to read the meters. He’d holler out ‘waterman’ as approaching the house so you could let him in to read the meter. Back then, no one thought much about letting him in to do his job. Nowadays, I’m not so sure if anyone would let him in! I would be real curious to know whether that water meter at my childhood home is still in the furnace closet or whether they moved them to the outside of the house.

Anyway, we headed to get water from Sumas City Hall. We found out that we needed a funnel which one of the city worker guys, lent to us. We also learned how to handle a fire hose as well. After the first fill was completed, we told them we’d be back for a refill. We had until 3 PM to return. We were also allotted 1500 gallons of water but only needed around 250 or so.

The bladder full weighs in at around 1100 pounds. Our truck’s hauling capacity is 1500, so that was all we really wanted to haul at a time. The hot tub is around 180+ gallons, so I have water for my garden! Yippee!🙌

See @silvertop’s post for Pepe frog’s inspection of the new ‘pond’.

There’s always lots to see between home and Sumas even though it’s just 5 miles north up at the border. There are lots of dairy farms and silos! I want to someday do a car trip and just photograph barns and silos. Here’s a few along the way.

Of course, there’s always a cow or two around. This poor girl really wanted outside!

These were happy cows!

The guys have handlebars on their heads!😁

The rolling hills with mountains in the distance is lovely to look at.

It was a perfect summer day! 🌞

The NW Washington Fair is next month and I spied this car which is destined to be destroyed at the Demolition Derby!

All that hard work and then it will look nothing like that afterwards, if it can still even run!

Once home, we began filling the hot tub and upon going outside, heard @silvertop talking with someone……well sort of!

These two young bucks hang out together and frequent our property as we have so many good things to eat! Right now, we have little green apples that are falling from the trees. I think it’s the tree’s way of culling some so the remaining ones grow better. The bucks absolutely love them and seem to not be too afraid of us. Good for us; bad for them as that’s how they could possibly end up on someone’s dinner table!🙀 They’re safe with us!

That’s all for today’s adventures. I hope you’ve enjoyed the pictures! Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely evening! 🙏🙏🇮🇱🇺🇦
