Freewrite : How to Write Short story with Cliffhanger

I write a lot of short stories. Not every story gets the kick. Some do and some end up in a wrong way.

Like some stories that needs to be exapnded a lot before they can become good. Like sometimes in order for them to click in your head you have to live life that way for it to be connected. That part of the freewrite is considered. And that is the type of the story on which we are building as well.

My approach with the short story is that cliffhangers build slowly and they tend to grow if we extend the story. But do we need to extend those stories all the time? I don't think so. But short stories need to have a message like at the end I am delivering something you are connecting yourself to.

I try to connect the dots but not always that works out. So I try to use the picture prompts for the freewrite.
