Things are a bit different in the Pacific Northwest…………..at the end of January!😇
Is Winter winding down, or will February let loose a Nor’Easter Snow storm that will go down in the History books?😳😅
“How many cords of firewood do you burn a year Silvertop…….. how big is your firewood stack?”☺️

Silvertop has both wood heat and an amazing mini-split 2 1/2 ton heat pump, plus a backup gas forced air furnace……. we are prepared!👍
We have many homesteaders in the mountains, that are completely off the grid.
Heat, electricity, water, they are on their own!
From fancy log sided cabins like my neighbor Tim’s cabin in the fourth photo, to very primitive homesteads, that you see in the next photo, that borders Keith and Lynne’s network of trails ……
This is Soren’s homestead…….
He is a quiet 30 something guy, living by himself, on his own land, with his dog……
Today I was hiking a trail that borders his property headed to soaring Eagle. His dog started barking aggressively, and was headed towards me at a run!😳
I stopped in my tracks….. his dog did not!😬
Suddenly from behind me I heard……..
“Silvertop he’s OK, he’s a big puppy!”
It was Keith and Lynne out for a hike on this beautiful Sunny day!😎
“Silvertop we will introduce you to Soren and his dog!”😊
Soren’s home is an old school bus, retrofitted with one or two solar panels and a woodstove.
He parks this between two metal storage containers…………
Guys this is not something for the faint of heart, this is really roughing it!😮
“Silvertop I don’t even use my generator much, I just use a battery powered miners headlamp!”
Not the lifestyle Silvertop or the Mrs would like, but Soren seems very happy!😊
They say don’t judge a book by its cover……… or the homestead!😇
From now on I’ll look forward to running into Soren and his puppy on future hikes!☺️
