It is hard to believe, but it has been almost four years since I found my way to what was then called "Steemit."
The reason I ended up here was that I was simply disgusted with the state of Facebook as it had become during the US Presidential campaigns of 2016, and then following the actual 2016 election.
Something peaceful and non-stressful!
I had never seen so much hateful spewage and rhetoric by people had purportedly been friends a year earlier. It was like all "filters" and sense of common respect and decency had suddenly gone out the window!
By comparison, the Steem of January 2017 felt like a calm oasis!
You could definitely say that it was "Better Living Through Steem," to borrow an idea from a recent community challenge.
Of course, I was never able to completely abandon Facebook, because I run several business pages there... which is one of the few actual useful uses of the social media behemoth: It does have a huge reach, if you're trying to market something, particularly to a slim demographic niche, where you can use their sorting mechanism to target only the specific people you're trying to reach.
Fall leaves
Which brings me to my next point: I still don't like Facebook!
In the meantime, there has been another election, and people are still being horrendously nasty and discourteous to each other over simple differences in political views.
Some of my friends are over the edge "Alt. Rights" and some are "Hairy Commie-Leaning Liberals" and SO WHAT?
It's not the actual differences of opinion that get to me, it's the intolerance over differences in opinion. And the name calling! Suddenly everyone is "an idiot" and everyone is accusing everyone else of "fraud."
Instead of all that hatred, why don't you just let people re-count the damn votes?
By a peaceful stream
Perhaps what bugs me most is that this tendency seems to be spilling outside the political arena. Now I am watching supposedly "Enlightened" people call each other frauds and scammers over their differing perspectives of what it means to be enlightened.
It all feels like funhouse mirror circus viewed through a real bad acid trip.
So why do I still go back, you might wonder. Well, as I said, business. I was helping Mrs. Denmarkguy promote an online symposium in which she is one of the keynote presenters... so I had to pay "the price" of also being exposed to all the ugly garbage.
And there it is... thanks for reading my rant!
How about YOU? Do you ever use Facebook anymore? Does it seem like the intolerance of differences is running rampant there? As always, comments, feedback and other interaction is invited and welcomed! Because — after all — SOCIAL content is about interacting, right? Leave a comment-- share your experiences-- be part of the conversation!

I don't know how long it has been since I last visited Facebook. With their sorting and censoring, we have no idea who will actually see what we post there, if anyone at all.
I still have friends that use it, but I've told them all that I won't be seeing their posts because I won't be logging in, so if they have something they want me to know about, they can send me an e-mail. Google makes it easy to set up mailing lists, so it's just as easy to send everyone an e-mail as it is to post to FaceBook.

Recently we were watching all the chaos around election, two camps pro each candidate and also some documentary about that in German documentary channel. The most irritating thing is when they were interviewing for example pro-Trump people, who were spreading lie, they openly say that they realize that it is not a truth but they present them like a truth and the people should decide. Such people are dangerous, they are lick a sparkle in dry wood, which is enough to set a fire.
Trump himself one of them, therefore, I hope that he will be off the scene and will not be able to re-apply as he plans.
I think there are many people while behind the monitor people think that they are invisible therefore, a lot of nasty things can take place. Actually that is a reason we are nowhere active except Steem only. If that experiment will do to show down then we also finish our social media experiment.
It is always nice to read your posts @denmarkguy and we are wishing you and your Mrs nice weekend :)
