A WIDOW FOR LIFE.

Last week, I watched a documentary on lots of insects and I was fascinated by all of them. I have always wondered why some insects appear to have 4 legs and yet in reality they do have 6legs. This is because some of them like the locusts, grasshoppers, beetles and many more appear to have four legs.

As I watched, I learnt so much about them and their ways of life and I came to appreciate them more and learn to live with them. Despite all their abilities, one of the insects particularly stood out for me and I would like to share with you. The mighty female black widow spider.

The black widow spider to me has a coca cola shaped figure whereas others say it has an hour glass shape. She is 1.5 inches long; diameter of 0.25 inches and lives for about 1-3 years They are also highly venomous but it doesn’t have the most dangerous venom in the world, although its venom is much more poisonous than a rattlesnake. Well, I can imagine being bitten by such a small insect. Good thing is that there is an antivenin that exits. These spiders are aggressive and they’re trained from their young and infant stage. According to spider expert Jonathan Pruitt of the University of California, “The last thing a mother wants is out of her 300 babies, to have one giant one and 299 dead ones.” How mean! The circle of life is at time unfair. If you this this is tragic wait and see what it does after mating.

This spider earns his name the “black widow” from eating the male black spider right after the mating process is done. Aha! If this was to happen in human life, I wander how many men we would have in the world. This widow spider is merciless and doesn’t care about anything but to pass on its own generation. At first I thought that the red sign on its abdomen might that that is where its poison lays, but to my surprise it signals to all predators that its dangerous. I was taken aback to learn that it needs to protect its self from danger. To me, it’s already dangerous!

After watching this documentary, I couldn’t sleep so well that night hahaha… I could feel that the black widow spider hairs moving and climbing onto my body.

Anyway this has made me want learn more about insects and know their abilities and how they survive in this world.
