256 Rohingya Ethnic Residents Still Remain in Bireuen.

A total of 256 Rohingya ethnic residents entered residential areas in three locations. Hundreds of Rohingya ethnic residents landed in Lhok Mambang Village, Gandapura. Next in Samuti Krueng Village and in Samuti Makmur Village, Gandapura District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province, Sunday, 11/19/2023.

The Rohingya ethnic residents entered the residential area at around 02.00. WIB, the Rohingya who entered residential areas in Bireuen Regency consisted of 86 adult men, 110 adult women, 24 female children and 36 male children.

Currently they are being housed temporarily at the West Lapang Village Fish Auction Place, Gandapura District, Bireuen.

Meanwhile, UNHCR hopes that the Bireuen Regency Government will appoint a temporary shelter for the 249 Rohingya refugees who are anchored in Gandapura District.

This hope was conveyed by the Protection Associate of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Aceh, Faisal Rahman, to several media crew during the process of moving the Rohingya to the fishermen's hall in H Fatan Hamlet, Gampong Lapang Barat Gandapura.

Meanwhile, village officials and the community of all 40 villages in Gandapura Bireuen rejected their villages as temporary shelters for Rohingya refugees who were found in Lhok Mambang Village and several other villages, Sunday, 11/19/2023.

The rejection of their village being used as a shelter was conveyed by the Head of Apdesi, Gandapura District, Bireuen, Mauliadi during a dialogue with Faisal Rahman, as Protection Associate of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Aceh, Sunday, 19/11/2023, afternoon, at the Balai complex Fishermen, Gampong Lapang Barat temporary shelter.

Meanwhile Keuchik West Lapang Mukhtar Yusuf told several media crews that his party and residents had provided assistance in the form of food, drinks, clothing and other necessities as well as temporary shelter.

But there is no place to use it next. In essence, said Mukhtar Yusuf, the village community refused to accommodate Rohingya in the village.

Meanwhile, many Rohingya immigrants who landed in Bireuen and are now placed in West Lapang Village, Gandapura District, have been registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Faisal Rahman said that when registering, basically most of the Rohingya immigrants had already been registered as refugees with UNHCR.

"They came from a shelter or camp in Bangladesh," said Faisal to several media crew.

Representing UNHCR, Faisal, expressed his gratitude to the community for providing the opportunity and time to negotiate a solution for Rohingya immigrants, so that these immigrants were temporarily accepted.

"There is indeed resistance, but at the same time there is also a feeling from the community to help them. We hope that they will no longer be returned to the sea," said Faisal.

As previously reported, hundreds of Rohingya immigrants landed again in Bireuen waters, precisely in Gandapura District, Sunday, November 19 2023 at around 02.00 WIB.
