Aceh Government Implements RDF Technology for Waste Management.

The Aceh government immediately implemented Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF)-based waste management technology operating at the Blang Bintang Regional Final Processing Site (TPA), Aceh Besar, in an effort to convert waste into a renewable energy source.

Head of the Aceh Environment and Forestry Service (DLHK), A. Hanan, said that up to 300 tons of waste enters the Regional TPA per day, from Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar.

"This waste management technology uses RDF to reduce the pile of rubbish at the Blang Bintang Regional TPA which comes in at around 300 tons per day," said Hanan, Tuesday (4/6/2024).

He explained that the RDF machine technology is a waste processing process which includes drying to reduce the water content, then the waste is chopped into powder form, until finally it is ready to be used as an alternative fuel.

Hanan continued, with this processing method, daily waste production in the capital areas of Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar that goes to the Blang Bintang TPA will no longer accumulate, because it will go straight into processing.

"Later, the incoming waste will be directly processed using an RDF machine. "The results will later be used by the cement factory in Lhoknga, to mix coal fuel," he said.

According to Hanan, currently the development planning for implementing RDF technology at the Regional TPA has been completed.

His party has prepared a Detailed Engineering Design (DED) document and a project tender process will be carried out in October 2024. Construction funds come from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).

"Construction will start in January 2025, the funding source will be around IDR 200 billion from the APBN," he said.
