Hi steemians
In Nigeria, children start from nursery classes and is the first stage where children will start learning ABC and their teachers will also teach them how to pronounce certain word, gradually they will move to the next section which is primary educational level.
Primary school is compulsory in Nigeria, parents are also expected to buy all the material needed including school uniform. Children wear uniform in order to differential them self from other students. Since they consider this stage as foundation, graduating students will be awarded first leaving certificate.
Successful students who passed common entrance examination are given admission into secondary school, their are some boys only secondary school and girls only secondary school while their are some school they mixed both girls and boys together. Secondary school are separated into junior and senior section, secondary school is 6years, pupils will spend 3 years in junior section and another 3 years in senior section. Junior secondary school sit for Junior secondary school exam and they will be award junior secondary school certificate.
The most successful pupils now move to the next stages which is senior secondary school, after they have been in SS3 they will sit for Senior secondary school examination (SSCE). The students that do well in their exam will now move to the tertiary institution. Students who want to gain admission into the university in Nigeria must have at least 5 credits unit which include English and Mathematics.
Furthermore, students must also pass joint admission and matriculation board (Jamb) and each Nigeria university have different cut off mark set for each courses.
There are some course which is 4years, 5years and 7years but minimum is 4years in Nigeria university.
• Corruption: Corruption has been a major challenges that affect our education system, most contractor and government official that awarded the contract to are not do their job perfectly and they are their to embezzle our money. They will not use quality material for us and our class room will not last longer.
• Dilapidate building: most of the class room are not in good condition students will be seen under the mangoes tree where they received lectures from their master.
• Not enough text book in the library, most text book in the library are outdated and they are also not modern text book so that our students will be use in order to compete with others students in developed countries.
• Poor toilet facilities: Our toilet is not functioning and their is no any notice board that will warn the students not to excreta unnecessarily. Most of our toilet are not strong in the next 2 years they will collapsed.
They should also employ qualified teacher that have certificate so that they can share their knowledge with the students. Nigeria government offered free education before but changing of government disrupt every things. Hardly you will see some teacher come to the class room, government most established agency that will monitor activities of the teachers.
