Why do people troll?

Trolling is internet slang for behavior by social media users trying to instigate conflict, argument or hostility in an online social community.

The Marrian Webster dictionary defines it as:

a person who intentionally antagonizes others online by posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or offensive comments or other disruptive content

The MacMillon Dictionary defines it as:

to write negative or provocative comments on a website in order to deliberately cause others to react in a particular way

From the above two definitions alone you will notice that there is a wide variance in the definitions of the term.

It is very common in online communities like facebook, twitter, reddit and even in steemit.

Some trolls are obvious and others are subtle. The obvious ones are usually offensive and the subtle ones are not but provocative.
