The moon sighting in Pakistan was done yesterday for Ramadan, today was the first of Ramadan. Everyone was filled with excitement and greeted each other with Ramadan Mubarak. I wish Ramadan Mubarak to my fellow Muslims all over the world.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims, and is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and lasts twenty-nine to thirty days, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next. Being a Muslim, the month of Ramadan is very refreshing and exciting for me. It gives us Muslims a break from all worldly affairs and a chance to leave our sins and turn back to God.
The basic point of Ramadan is to fast. Fasting from dawn to sunset is obligatory for all adult Muslims who are not ill, traveling, elderly, insane, or menstruating. The predawn meal is referred to as suhur, and the nightly feast that breaks the fast is called iftar.
I woke up for suhur early today with enthusiasm and new energy. I and my brothers helped my mother in the kitchen. The best thing about Ramadan is that it brings all the family members closer and renews the spirit of kindness in everyone.
We all did our suhur together and then I went to Mosque to offer prayers. The spiritual rewards of fasting are believed to be multiplied during Ramadan. Accordingly, Muslims refrain not only from food and drink, but also from tobacco products, and sinful behavior, devoting themselves instead to prayer and recitation of the Quran.
I came back and after reciting Quran, slept for a while. The smallest act you do increases your rewards if you do it with good intentions. I woke up around noon and took a shower. The weather was extremely hot today. I went to Mosque again to offer prayers. Even though the weather was warm, the mosque was fully packed with people. When I came home I decided to study since my exams are coming near. I studied anatomy for a while. I couldn't focus since I was feeling lethargic, but since I know the rewards of praying and fasting I told myself to wait for a while till Iftar.
When it was around five, we started our preparations for Iftar. It is one of the best times of the whole day. I help my mother again in preparing food. I helped her in making fruit salad.
Aromas filled our whole house. When it was about dawn, all of my family members sat together, made duas, and opened our fast on the muazzin's call. I drank almost a jug of juice since I was feeling so thirsty.
After iftar, I and my brother went to the nearest mosque again to offer prayers. During Ramadan, the mosques are always filled with people reciting Quran, praying, giving lectures on Islamic topics, and discussing an Islamic event or history. We recited Quran for a while, chatted with some people, and then headed home.
Even though I'm tired now since it was such a long day, my heart is filled with happiness and gratitude towards God and I thank him for giving me this month of Ramadan for forgiveness and earning rewards.
So that's it for today. I hope you also enjoyed reading my diary, if yes, do let me know in the comment section. I'll come again with a new diary.
Thanks
