Steemit Engagement Challenge S5-W1: Laughter is The Best Medicine.

There is an Irish proverb that goes, “A good laugh and a good sleep are the best cures in the doctor’s book.
Laughter is an age-old medicine that modern healers should both practice and prescribe, a growing number of humor-oriented health professionals maintain.

Empirical Evidence

Dr. William Fry, a leading researcher into the psychology of laughter at Stanford University says, “humor’s assistance in modern medicine is no joke”. He says the body gets a healthy “mini-workout” from a good laugh.

There is overwhelming information throughout history by philosophers and writers who have shared their positive views on the benefits of humor on the sick. For instance, Arnold Glasow called laughter “a tranquilizer with no side effects.” Voltaire wrote: “The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.”

A certain philosopher, Max Beerbohm stated, “Nobody ever died of laughter.” This assertion has been buttressed by present-day scholar Norman Cousins who said he was healed of a diagnosed “incurable disease” by the curative powers of hard laughing. This he nicknamed an exercise like “internal jogging.”

My Experience

I am glad that stumbled across Steemit and managed to read through the amazing articles and posts written on laughter as the best medicine. I have been helping my younger sister who is in hospital with some humor and inspiration. It’s unbelievable that she has recuperated so fast.

My membership with STEEM FOR BETTERLIFE has helped me set up my Steemit account fast, of course, with the unwavering support of members.

A Bit of Humour and Laughter - A Husband and his Wife, Angela

Husband and wife.png

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment; not talking to each other for a while.

Suddenly the man realized the next day he would need his wife, Angela, to wake him up at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight.

Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, “Please wake me at 5:00 AM.” He left the paper where knew she would find it.

The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight.
Furious, he was about to go to see why his wife hadn’t woken him up when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed on his side. The paper said, “It is 5:00 AM. Wake up. Your lovely wife, Angela.”
