Hello friends welcome to my blog

Travelling out of my base once in a while is a relief for me because most of my travel is to my loved ones. And I love all the pampering I get, but my dislike of travelling is the hours I have to be in transit. It gets me exhausted. Sometimes I wish I had superpowers that would make me appear at my destination.

Apart from the exhausting part of sitting too long in the vehicle, travelling is fun. It gives us unforgettable memories with family and loved ones, we get to know the culture of the location travelled to, you get exposure to nature like when you travel from city to the village which helps improve your mental health as you forget and take a break in all the hustle and busy daily routine of the city.

Where did you travel to?

It has been a festive and celebration season for the past 3 weeks, a time when family members come together from their different bases to be merry with loved ones. So I was not left out on travelling to celebrate with loved ones. I travelled to my family's house and it was a full house my siblings all came around with their children

I travelled to three different locations this season, which are Abia, Anambra and Enugu state, all in the eastern part of the country. Each location has its own unique experiences and way of life.

My elder sister took the opportunity of everyone around to do a thorough cleaning of her shop

Why did you visit this place?

I travelled to my family house because that was the only way I could see all my siblings together, have a reunion and bond that would last till we had a reason to unite again since we all stay in different locations. It is always a happy time when we come together. Everyone plans towards this meeting ahead of time in order not to miss it. Our parents are also filled with joy when we all unite as it brings about togetherness, which has also passed to our children. They also look forward to seeing their cousins every Christmas period.

What is the unique culture of the place?

One of the unique cultures of the Igbo people is the type of food we cook and eat. Travelling to Igbo Land, I have to enjoy some of them. However, Since it was a season of celebration and rice is known as the major food this festive period, we have to prepare it in a local way with palm oil, the way it's prepared in our culture. We call it palm oil rice.

We prepared it as we missed it, but added little beans to it, which is optional, and it came out delicious. This rice does not require tomatoes or any other classy ingredients it is prepared purely with local spices, palm oil and dry fish

We all enjoyed the meal and had that feel and taste of locally made food(rice).

I think Travelling should be encouraged for new experiences and connections.

@chilaw, 👋 hello.. greetings from Indonesia. I love the way you describe your purpose of the traveling to your family house. A good tradition which we need to keep it going. It's a good way to nurse the family bounding, right?

We have the same tradition when we had Eid Vacation here. Even though through the time, many people wouldn't come back to their village because of the traveling cost or the distance between are too far and it needs to be arranged beforehand.

The palm oil rice 😉 it's quite similar to our "Nasi Uduk" in Indonesia, but besides the dried fish, we add some fragrant spice such as ginger, star anise, lemon grass, Kaffir lime leaves, bay leaf, shallots, garlic, and galangal (sometimes cardamom and cinnamon too) so it's very fragrant.

But I believe that your palm oil rice already that delicious without any spices added. 🤤🤤 Thank you for sharing your travel diary with us. Good luck!

I believe that family bonds foster unity and togetherness. Most of the time, travelling for this reunion is inconvenient, but we just have to plan ahead to create a chance for it.
For my cultural meal, I add some local spices too to my palm oil rice; the fish served as protein to the food.
Thank you for reading through and finding importance in my post.

Well, if i had a chance to travel to your town, I won't be bothered about what food i can eat 😉 palm oil rice will be the best option

Wow😁 that's good to know
