Greetings Everyone,
SPORTS!!! One of my favorite topics to talk about! Whether playing or watching I surely enjoy almost every game. I can remember, how I played Cricket/ Carrom/ Volleyball/ many other indoor and outdoor games for hours in my childhood. Still, I at least watch a game whenever I have time. Well, I'll tell you the reason with the flow.
Sports are an integral part of us. Well, for most of us. We have heard about them even from ancient Greek and Roman empires. God knows, how long sports have been around. Life is itself a sport, isn't it? Anyway, thank @sofian88 for encouraging sports enthusiasts. @senehasa, @patjewell, and @max-pro to this contest.
Do you like sports? Explain Why!
Well, to be precise I love sports. I think the main reason is the craze for Cricket here in Sri Lanka. With that atmosphere in the home, with friends, and in school, I always had a sporting mindset. But I am glad that I appreciate almost all sports. In my childhood, I got up early in the morning to watch Cricket, Rugby, Football world cups, and the Olympics. My junior classroom was just nearby the school playground. Just 5 minute's break was enough for us to be in the playground... Those were the times, I miss the most!!
Apart from all the physical and health benefits, sports make me relaxed. It's a great stress releaser. They help me to get refreshed and come back on track. And now I understand how sports help me to connect with people. When I played in the school sports team, the house meets widened my circle, and we get more emotionally attached. And the situations that we experienced in sports, are truly life lessons to face some competitive times.
Now with time, I see how we can globalize with sports, and how nations get united with sports. How sports bring peace and unity within people.
When I see **the commitment, dedication, and sacrifices put in by these legendary athletes, it provides me inspiration. The life story of some sportsmen are just a pack of life lessons
So, what not to like about sports?
Share with us your favorite sport, Why did you choose this type of sport?
If you are following me, you know the answer to this is Cricket. It's an emotion for me. It holds a sacred spot in my heart and lifestyle. I hardly miss a Sri Lankan match, and try to cover all the international matches.
Well, the reason for it is, as I said earlier, the craze for Cricket in my country. In 1996, the year I was born, and we won the first-ever world cup. We were underdogs at the tournament, and we became the champions defeating all the major teams. There were legendary players in our team, like Sanath, Kalu, Murali, Aravinda, Arjuna, and Vaas who revolutionized the game in that era.
These players became national heroes and in my childhood, the Sri Lankan team was legendary and at peak level. So, the enthusiasm grew rapidly and it became a part of our lives. It's easy to play and I was pretty good at it, making it to the school hardball team as well. So, that's why it became so much close to me.
Who is your favorite sportsman? Explain Why!
It's legendary Kumar Sangakkara. He is a stylish Sri Lankan Cricket who became a GOAT in all formats. He is a stylish batsman, with an elegant shot selection, a great WK, a captain, and a role model for me. Earlier I shared about his legacy, you can read it here, if interested.

Apart from his career records, who do I like him?
- The personality
- He showed the value of Education - He passed the law exam, and he handles so fluently, his analytical ability in the game is amazing.
- He became the first non-British MCC President, and the youngest person player to deliver the MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture at Lords.
- He showed great sportsmanship in and out of the field
- Now he is a successful businessman as well
So, that's it for this time. Hope you will enjoy it!!
Thank you.
Best Regards!

One look at that cricket bat and the red dots and I am lost!
Sports unites and that for me is the most important thing. It brings families, nations, and the world together as one.
With sport comes sportmanship and the respect for the various sport and your fellow men.
I like all sport but I LOVE cricket!
Best of luck for the contest.

Yeah, I hardly play hardball Cricket nowadays, this one is one of my friends'.
Yep, in 1996 there was a war zone in Sri Lanka. Government and LTTE. People say that they agree on peace, for the World Cup, final days.
You got me. Thank you for the lovely comment!!

When I read your blog, I recalled the day we won the World Cup in 1996. It's impossible to ignore the superb playing abilities of Sanath, Kalu, Arjuna, Aravinda, Mahanama, and Asantha. Our regard for them is a result of their playing style, persistence, cooperation, and other qualities. We never missed a cricket match back then, but over time I got bored watching it.
But I still can't figure out why.
Wishing you success in the contest.

Yeah, you are right... It's great that you had that live experience. The feeling I had in the 2014 World Cup final. Anyway, as you said, 1996 was the peak point of Sri Lankan Cricket and the main reason for people gathering around it. The ones you have mentioned are truly legends..
😁😁
