Ever heard of the phrase "No food for the lazy man"? This phrase explains one of the major reasons why we work.
Work (occupation) is what we do to earn a living. I currently work as a preschool teacher at Brianna International Schools and have been working for about 4 years.
These 4 years have been a rollercoaster of experiences having to meet different children from different backgrounds.
Due to this work, I have seen myself harness deep-rooted abilities both in myself and that of my learners and this has brought me lots of fulfillments and joy. (I could literally see myself in some of them)
However, in this new academic session, my work load has skyrocketed. The increase hitting the school has earned me learners multiplied by 2 in my original class size.
I could never find a breathing space, as children are wonderful in their ways. I am sure I have lost a few kg of weight as I work under pressure to meet weekly targets. I sincerely pray that God will help us.
This work has earned me beautiful relationships and is still helping me learn the skill of patience, because each new day we repeatedly make small efforts to achieve success.
Apart from working as a teacher, I am also an online VTU/ Data Vendor where I sell airtime, data bundles, Recharge Prepaid meters etc.
I genuinely believe in working for yourself, maybe through learning a skill or running a business, as it keeps you off meager payments and job insecurities, but rather, it gives you creative control, flexibility and helps you create work opportunities too.
@eveetim @kafio @usherray what do you have to say about work?
Thank you @wakeupkitty.pal for inviting me to this contest

A bit late but I wonder what stopped you to leave a comment about "work"? Is it to hard work to type something?

I like to hear what it means "learners have multiplied by 2".
Does this mean you have 90 children or more in one classroom? Since that is what I would consider as multiplied by 2. Still, it's possible to teach such a class just like it's possible to raise 14 children alone. Certain skills are needed just like some children willing to give a hand (and they are there, they always are). I learned way more in the class with over 45 students as my children ever did in a class with 6. How sad is that?
As I understand you have more than 1 job and so did I (2 paid, 2 unpaid next to my own business and being a single mother). Flexibility and to me creativity was the key and it still is.
I am not familiar with the phrase but its the meaning is not different from what we say: those who don't work won't eat or "you will work till you die until you inherit or "only the sunset is for free".
Is this the reason why we work? Partly. Life is built on paying for everything but to many, it's also a fulfilment or expression in what they are good at (workaholics do exist and this is a free choice so is your job or are your jobs).
With you, I agree that meetings are the biggest waste of time and energy. I had many and the fact is that the one who makes the agenda also knows what the outcome after hours of discussing will be but also if it comes to this there's room to change it but the fact is most sit there, complain and do not act.

@wakeupkitty.pal The largest class size I have had is 12 but today I have 22 and still counting bearing in mind that as preschoolers your work includes teaching them everything including how to eat, visiting the loo consistently so working around the clock is inevitable but I do enjoy having them around especially during our circle time
Again I must say I admire your flexibility in running four work shifts at a go
Truly, those who don't work are not supposed to eat is the real meaning of "No food for the lazy man" though food is not the only reason we work but I think most people will just have hibernated through life if the didn't
have to put food on the table (especially if their work was boring)
However working grants us a sense of purpose fulfillment, financial stability of some sort, social connections, skill development etc

I know what it means but I still believe that's not a big class and I also know it can be hard work. I don't know what the age of preschoolers is (with us 2.5 years old) but even 2 years old help and help another.
Four years is the age children visit primary school with us and at that age they can do everything themselves (toilet, no diapers, eating, getting dressed and so on).
I am slowing down not, I had it with all the work, I worked enough and with the winter coming up I also feel I need more sleep. Soon it will be dark at 3 pm and we already wake up when it's dark. So short days and if there's no sun (days with fog) the energy level is low.
I agree we work for many different reasons but with us 90% goes to rent of house, healthinsurance (not allowed by law to do without) and so on and food, clothes, is not included let alone fun, hobbies, celebrations. I wonder what life will look like in 10-20 years.
Financial stability is something of the past I am afraid.
A great week to you and thank you for joining and the great talk.

My work is also helping me learn a lot of patience. And I mean a lot of patience. I really want to know though, how are you able to take it one step at a time? I mean how are you patient and what level of patience do you require for your job? I get very disoriented quickly and stressed out because I make a lot of mistakes and it doesn't really seem like I'm improving and everyone just tells me to push on through. And it's hard. Really hard.

Patience is a virtue and is absolutely needed in every field of work.
Working with children have thought me that things doesn't always have to go my way. I mean some days a child could come to school with mood swings and I have to find a solution for it first depending on their uniqueness.
Well I have learnt to take one day at a time and mutter random prayers and positivity under my breath at every time I meet with a hitch.
Remember don't be too hard on yourself, do your very best and consistently try to improve. Be conscious that as humans we will not always be 100 percent but we can be doing excellently well most of the time that our flaws are unnoticed.
So the next time you are tensed, silently cheer your self and say a bit of prayer knowing that the best version of our self is yet to manifest and we can be better at everything if we want to.
I remember in my first year of teaching after the first term, I was handed over a learner who was really struggling. I mean I was afraid and crying literally, wondering why it should be me when I barely had any experience apart from home tutoring.
I spoke to my head of department and she said that I was able and that I should find a solution for it. I research more on how such child could be helped and created class routines, took deep breath with prayers in between when it became harder.
Gradually the change became visible and the parents were amazed.
So @bluelavender I know you are more than able to pull through it even when it is hard
