D-Track Team Coordinator, Monday 11 March 2024, 8 am: No update report received. The last report received was on Sunday 10 March 2024 at 14:00. Today's movement plan is to go back down to Ise-Ise Village using the same route. This itinerary will take 2 days. However, as the coordinator of the monitoring team, I still predict the possibility that they will arrive in Ise-ise village at midday. This will be proven by their report later.
11:30 Report received; The team is already at Camp 4 in good health and there are approximately 3 liters of water available. The team will continue to move to camp 2, there is a possibility that the team will continue to move down to camp 1 if physical conditions and weather are favorable. The weather is currently cloudy.
Monday, March 11, 2024, 7:30 in the morning, 1 day before Ramadhan, the team is preparing to travel back down, the estimated travel time is 2 days to Ise-Ise village, with 2 bottles of water extracted from moss and from small well or equivalent to 3 L. The first target is cam 3. The journey down is much easier because the route has been open and most of the terrain is downhill so the journey becomes shorter. Another factor that makes the journey down easier is that the load carried is much reduced because some of the logistics have been consumed during the journey. The consideration factor is that this 3 L water stock must be able to last up to Ise-ise village, because if not there will be no other suitable location to look for water, however another strategy that we apply is to stop and squeeze water in mossy areas. At camp 3 there is also a moss area where we can add water before we can reach Ise-ise. The backup plan is to keep walking at night to reach the residents' plantation area or even arrive at Ise-ise village. It is most probable that the journey will take 16-18 hours non-stop. This strategy will be carried out if the terrain allows, physical conditions, and time of arrival at camp 3, apart from that, the weather conditions will be taken into consideration when making decisions.
The return journey was quite easy because the weather was not so hot. Our journey was in a rush, by minimizing rest time during the journey, we did this to maximize the distance traveled and minimize very limited water consumption. Upon arrival at camp 4 area, the team managed to send a report to the D-Track coordinator to inform our initial position and next plan.
We reached camp area 3, and we decided to squeeze water from the moss that was available nearby. From this moss we also managed to collect an additional 1.5 L of water, even if we intended to spend the night, this water would be enough to make tea and cook instant noodles. After collecting the water the time was already 16:30. After calculating the distance, and considering physical conditions and weather, we canceled our intention to spend the night at camp 3, we continued our journey by preparing headlamps and paying closer attention to path signs we left earlier.
When dark falls, we decided to rest for a while, make a fire, and make 2 cups of coffee. There are still some unopened biscuits left, this can be our dinner without the hassle of cooking rice. The team's decision was solid to continue the journey to Ise-ise Village this evening.
At 19:45, with the remaining 2 L of water we continued our journey using headlamps as light. Tonight's journey was much more difficult than expected and our traveling speed was also slower. On a night trip like this, traffic signs would help us find the path we took 4 days ago.
During the journey, the team leader slipped and suffered abrasions on his elbow. However, it was not fatal which could make us have to stop the trip. There were no significant obstacles during the journey apart from encountering Pit Viber snakes and a herd of wild boars twice, but they didn't attack us as we almost reached the pine ridge. Arriving at the pine tree area which was quite spacious, we decided to rest tonight because it was already 23:00, but here there was a little discussion between us continuing our journey to the village or continuing tomorrow.
The team decided to continue the journey after resting making coffee and setting a small campfire. The team rested for 1 full hour, after returning refreshed we continued our journey to the farmer's hut where we stayed for the first night of the expedition.
The decision to continue the journey was because the terrain we were going to travel tended to continue to decline and be wide. So it gave us more confidence that we would reach the farmer's hut before 3 am the next day.
The team finally reached the farmer's hut that we stayed in on the first night of the expedition. From here we can get enough water for bathing and cooking. But tonight we don't cook anymore. After cleaning ourselves up a bit we immediately rested in the hut and sent a summary of the trip report and plans for the next trip to the D-Track Coordinator. A total of 19 hours and 15 minutes walking from the top to the Ise-ise village is over.
LAST DAY JAPAKEH EXPEDITION (Tuesday, 12 March 2024)
Tuesday, March 12, at 8 am we arrived at the house of the village head Raje Ise-ise, to say goodbye and continue our journey to the Ise-ise Police Station to report the entire expedition we had carried out.
The interview at the Ise-Ise Police Station took quite a long time because we had to explain in detail the route, what we found along the way, terrain conditions, and other possible routes to get to the top. Apart from information about the animals we encountered during the trip. After saying goodbye to the Ise-ise Police, the team immediately moved back to the JAPAKEH XX Quarantine Post (Matang Glp. Dua, Bireuen Regency) and arrived there on Tuesday, March 12, at 17:15 WIB. With the XX JAPAKEH EXPEDITION officially closed.
Thank you for reading the JAPAKEH EXPEDITION sequel, This is the last day of the expedition. See you in the next expedition story
Best Regards
