Happy Sunday Steemians, how was your weekend? Trust it was fun and lively... I would love to share my experience yesterday with my fellow Steemians so as to create so that anyone reading this won't fall a victim...
I woke up very late on Saturday being a work free day for me, when i started work, my boss told me that we work on Saturdays but not the usual time of 8am to 4pm but 10am to 2pm, I explained to her that i do go for church activity by 4pm and i do house cleaning every weekend especially on Saturdays, she loves me a lot and is very nice to me, she agreed but told me to be available if I'm called for special duty even on weekends.
I picked up my phone and realized the phone is off due to low battery, Thanks to God, my roommate was around and he cleaned the house and washed the bedsheets the previous day which leaves me with washing my clothes and cleaning the Kitchen, after cleaning, I picked my phone and went to a charging spot owned by a friend of mine, sat down there plugged my phone for charging and started watching some movies i collected from a friend the previous week.
I was enjoying movie when my Roommate's call came in, he told me that some security operatives came to our place looking for me, he asked me what crime i committed and i cluelessly replied that "I DON'T KNOW". I dropped my phone and was about strolling home because i was confused and needed answers when a Toyota Corolla pulled up in front of me, some men alighted from the car and asked me if I'm Franklin Onyekwuluje and i replied in affirmative... They told me to enter the vehicle that they have finally gotten me...
I was infuriated and i politely requested for an arrest warrant when the youngest one held me by the collar and tried to push me in to the vehicle, i refused and started struggling with him which attracted the attention of passerbye and surprisingly my friends around just stood akimbo watching without trying to help in any way... A pharmacy friend of mine who knew me from my workplace came to my rescue and asked them what is the problem? One of the security operatives who i later learnt are Economic Financial Crime Commission Operatives popularly known as EFCC replied him with a threat that he should mind his business or he will be arrested too which got the Pharmacist upset and he called some local police to the scene and the whole took another turn...
The police officers came and immediately instructed them to leave me despite their explanation that they are From EFCC, after some interrogation, the police teamed up with the EFCC operatives to question me which was when i learnt that a Telegram was used to dupe someone and after tracing and tracking the phone for years without success... They tracked the phone number used in creating the account and the number was mine.
I was short of words, I don't know where to start because i can't remember opening a Telegram account talk more of duping someone with it, I sat down quietly and one of the police had pity on me and decided to lend me a helping hand by asking some questions, he asked me how many people has access to my phone, I just replied that it's only my family members, my best friend @starrchris and my roommate @dybastos... He asked me whether someone has used my phone or number to open Telegram and i said No.
After a short while, I remembered that Eight months ago, a friend of mine approached me and told me he wants to use my phone to open something, i later heard a message ringtone, he told me to open it since all my message app is locked with my fingerprint. I opened it, checked the message and saw a code from Telegram, I ignored it because i didn't see it as any harm, I told the police man about it and they asked for the friends name and phone number, they told me not to call him, apologized for the embarrassment and asked me to go home but they instructed me to keep my phone on incase they want to reach me...
This was my ordeal with EFCC and My Fraudster Friend, I want to say this, please be mindful of who you give your phone or devices because they can use it to commit a crime and at the end of the day, you'll answer to a crime you never committed...
I was asking myself what if i didn't see that message? what if my phone message wasn't locked? I won't have known he did such, I will be clueless and helpless there without knowing the source of my predicament...
Have A wonderful Evening and a Happy New Week in Advance
