Let's dive into the fascinating birth of Kolkata a city teeming with culture and history. The Story begins in the late 17th century, in 1690 a British Merchant named Job Charnock arrived on the banks of the Hooghly river. Seeking a strategic Trading Post, he identified three villages Sutanati Gobindapur and Kalikata. Little did he know he was laying the groundwork for one of India's most iconic cities. Charnock's choice wasn't random. The location offered a perfect blend of river access and relative safety from other Colonial Powers. He established a trading Hub that would later grow into the bustling Metropolis, we know today.

By 1706, The East India Company had fortified the area building Fort William to protect their interests. The city became an epicenter of Commerce attracting Traders, Artisans and adventurers from across the globe. But Kolkata was more than just a trading post. It soon evolved into a cultural melting pot.

By the mid 18th century, Kolkata had become the capital of British India, with this newfound status came Grand architecture, educational institutions and a vibrant cultural scene. From The Majestic Victoria Memorial to the bustling Howrah Bridge kolkata's landmarks narrate the tale of a city that rose from three villages to a cultural and commercial giant.

Today Kolkata stands as a testament to the resilience and dynamism of its people. A city that has embraced modernity while cherishing its Rich past.

So next time you wander through its streets remember you're walking through centuries of History.

I am really proud to be born and brought up in this city. I also witnessed many changes of the city in the past sixty-five years.

The famous poet Dwijendralal Ray wrote " Āmāra ē'i dēśētē janma yēna ē'i dēśētē mari" I was born in this country and die in this country.
