A. Write three basic differences between the electrical generator, motor, and transformer
Three basic differences between the electrical generator, motor, and transformer:-
Electrical generatorMotorTransformer
Converts mechanical energy into electricity.Converts electrical energy in mechanical.Transformer used to increase or decrease voltage levels.
Generator produce AC current.Motor can be powered by AC or DC.Charge AC voltage level.
A generator follows fleming’s right hand rule.A motor follows fleming’s left hand rule.A transformer follows faraday law of electromagnetic induction.
B. Give details about lightning arresters used in the electricity sector in your country

Lightning arrester is a system that prevents the lightning caused by the friction of clouds in the sky from causing damage to the earth. Lightning arresters play a vital role in protecting Bangladesh's electrical infrastructure from the frequent lightning strikes that occur during the monsoon season. These device are installed at various points in the power grid, including sub station, transmission lines and distribution network.

Types of lightning arrester used in Bangladesh:-

🔘 Metal oxide surge arresters (MOSA):-
These are the most common type of lightning arrester used in Bangladesh. They are made of zine oxide blocks. That have a highly non linen voltage current characteristic.
🔘 Silicon carbide surge arresters (SCSA):-
These are an older type of lightning arrester that is still used in some parts of Bangladesh. They are made of Silicon carbide blocks that have lower no linearity than zinc oxide.
🔘 Polymer surge arrester (PSA):-
These are the newer type of lightning arrester that is becoming increasingly popular in Bangladesh. They are made of polymer materials that are lighter and more durable than traditional ceramic arresters.

Importance of lightning arrester:-

🔘 Protect electrical equipment.
🔘 Maintain power supply reliability.
🔘 Improve public safety.
In conclusion, lightning arrester are an essential components of Bangladesh electrical infrastructure. They play a vital role in protecting the country's power grid from the frequent lightning strikes that occur during the monsoon season. As the country continues to develop it is important to invest in modern lightning arrester and other protective measure to ensure the reliability and safety of its power supply.

C. What is the actual current of a three-phase 1500 KVA, 0.9 power factor generator?

E. Practical: Make a lightning arrester to protect your home from lightning and show us step by step with pictures.

A lightning arrester, also known as a lightning rod, is a simple yet effective device used to protect structures from the damaging effects of lightning strikes.

1st Step:-Material Selection

Copper Rod:- Here i choose a high-quality 20 mm copper rod with sufficient thickness to handle high electrical currents.

Conductors:- Here i select heavy-gauge 10 Rm single phase copper cables for efficient current conduction.

Grounding Electrode:- Here a copper rod is commonly used as the grounding electrode.

Insulators and Fasteners:- Choose weather-resistant insulators and sturdy fasteners for secure installation.

2nd Step:-Installation :-

Mounting:- I have installed the copper rod at the highest point of the structure using appropriate fasteners and insulators.

Down Conductor Connection:- Then i have connected the down conductors to the copper rod using secure clamps and fasteners.

Grounding Electrode Installation:- Drive the grounding electrode deep into the ground.

Down Conductor Routing:- Then i route the down conductors along the exterior of the structure to the grounding electrode, ensuring they are securely fastened and insulated.

3rd Step:-Grounding Connection :-

I connect the down conductors to the grounding electrode using appropriate clamps and fasteners.

4 step:-Testing and inspection:-

Ground Resistance Testing:- Then i test the ground resistance to ensure it meets safety standards.
Visual Inspection:- Regularly inspect the entire system for any signs of damage or wear and tear.

Remember:-

🔘I adhere our local (Bangladesh) electrical codes and regulations. So if you install a lightning arrester you also follow your local electrical codes and regulation
🔘I consult it. But if you do not know you can consult with a qualified electrician for proper installation and testing.
🔘I will do regular maintenance because it is essential to ensure the effectiveness of the lightning arrester system.

By following these steps and working with professionals, you can create a reliable copper rod lightning arrester system to protect your home from the dangers of lightning strikes.
