THE ADVERSE EFFECT OF POLLUTION IN OUR SOCIETY

Hello beautiful and handsome Steemians, today, I want to share with you the adverse effects of pollution and how to curtail it . As we all know, Pollution has been one of the major problem the world Is facing, leading to extremely negative effect on mother earth. But before anyother thing, let's just take a look at what pollution means.

To have a clearer understanding of what we are about to go into, let me start by definingPOLLUTION. According to me, Pollution can be defined as the ill- act of introducing harmful substances to our environment. This therefore means that, for a place to be termed as a polluted area, things that poses threats to the environment has to be introduced. Let's also not rely on my own definition, let's take one more definition so you can have a vivid knowledge of what I am saying. So, according to National Geographic, they define pollution to be

"Pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into the environment. These harmful materials are called pollutants"Link
From this explanation, we can see it goes to say the same thing I said before. It is also worthy of note that these harmful items are known to be called POLLUTANTS.

So, because we have been able to explain what Pollution is, let us go ahead to list the type of pollution we have and explain ways at which each of them happen.

Let's quickly look at the three types of pollution and they get to happen.

• WATER POLLUTION: This is the type of pollution that happens when pollutants are introduced into bodies of water. We could see how people disposes their waste into the water and even oil companies exploring oil rings and allowing their spillage to get to the water bodies and harming the aquatic animals and going ahead to displace them, even the endangered species.

Going to big cities where people sees the water bodies as a dump site and don't care to consider recycling option. In such cities, alot of Aquatic animals has a minimal rate of survival.

• AIR POLLUTION: Just as Water Pollution, Air Pollution is also the introduction of harmful substances or Pollutants to the atmosphere, thereby making the air unsuitable to breath. This particular type of pollution is so rampant that it could be seen all on part of the earth as much as human exist. This seems unstoppable as much as it is to man kind. These pollution occurs when pollutants such as gas emission such as Carbon dioxide which include smokes from our vehicles, industrial generators, cigarettes and many more. Moving to the urban part of every country, we are always prone to health hazards because of too much Concentration of these gasses, taking Porthacourt in Nigeria for instance, the region where there is oil refinery, people breath in black soothes and the rooftops are being painted black because of too much emission of carbon dioxide. People around this area tends to get sick more often and this poses a big threat to humanity. Also, air pollution goes as far as depleting the ozone layer shielding the earth from direct rays of sunlight. As the later is depleting, the world is slowly being exposed to this direct rays of sunlight and this is a big problem if it finally depletes totally.

• LAND/ SOIL POLLUTION: This type of pollution is rapidly destroying a alot of things. It happens when pollutants are misplaced carelessly on the ground. For example, people who buys snacks, consume it and leave the sachets on the floor without disposing it properly. It's quite interesting to know that people don't really know that a single waterproof can stay in the soil for thousands of years without decaying, and anything that doesn't decay is harmful, I mean very harmful to the soil, when once the pH level of the soil has increase, it will take another load of work to decrease it, and at some point, it kills the some species of plants.

Also, land pollution poses a very strong health risk to human kind, since every food we tend to eat is from the soil, polluting it is as bad as denying humanity food.

The rapid increase of pollution in our society is something to be worried about, but then as much as it depends on us collectively and individually, we can bring pollution to it's bearest minimum.

• Master the act of disposing refuse properly.

• Recycling products should be encouraged

• Laws should be made to punish offenders.

• Industries who use high scale machines that emitts carbon into the atmosphere should make use of carbon converter l, this will help convert carbon to oxygen, making it suitable for man kind to breath in.

• Waste baskets and bins should be made available on strategic points to ensure refuse are being disposed comfortably.

• Sewage converter should be provided by government as well.

• Solar powering system should be encouraged and produced at affordable rate.

And the list goes on and on, let us join hands together and take good care of our planet as aliens won't do this for us.
