It is time for South Africa’s WSP Project!

There is no better word to describe how I feel today.

A couple of months ago I was asked if I would like to join the WSP Team (World Smile Project) and if I would be willing to run a project in South Africa. I immediately accepted as charity has been part of my life ever since I can remember.

With us moving to another province I asked for the project to be put on hold until we have moved. It is now two months since we have settled in the beautiful coastal town of Ballito. Today, I am ready to present my project to you.

As with so many countries in the world, the need in South Africa is big. Just to give some examples, there are currently +/- 9 million children which depend each day on the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) to provide them with food.
In many cases, this meal is also these children’s only meal for the day. We also had big floods early this year which left many families homeless. The shortfall of electricity supply is also one of our major problems.

There are many individuals, companies’ charity organizations, NGO’s, churches, etc. supporting numerous projects in my area. I could suggest that we support one of them.

One evening after watching a charity program on National Television, “Dankie Lottoland” a question crossed my mind. “How can one ever say thank you to everybody who contributed”. That is when it hit me.

For South Africa's first project, I would like to say thank you to “someone” who has made a difference in lives by supporting them in their needs. That is how I got to meet the founder and principal of Cedarwood Learning Centre.

Cedarwood Learning Centre is a school that operates on the 2nd floor of an office block. They receive no support or funding from the government. But, let me not spoil the founder’s fun.

The work performed by these teachers is absolutely wonderful. They've transformed children with psychological problems by giving them a place where they feel loved. It is my wish that we can support them by fulfilling one of their dreams.

A dream to have a touch interactive whiteboard that will enable them to assist the children with learning disabilities in an easier manner.

I keep all fingers cross that this project will be approved and that we can go ahead to raise funds under the tag #smilesouthafrica.
