Today virtually the entire world’s population uses the Internet, and this number keeps increasing as the days go by. Almost every populace, administration, army, industry, airline, enterprise, academic institution, and media use the Internet. No sector in the world does not rely on the Internet. What happens if one morning, there is no internet?
It’s not unthinkable for this to happen as the Internet can be hindered on a nationwide or global scale. The use of the Internet has turned the entire world into a global town. It helps the population connect with friends and loved ones with ease.
So let me visualize what a day without the Internet would be like for me.
The internet is indeed a blessing on a very large scale to the entire world. As beneficial as it is to the world, it can also hinder our social life.
This very question reminds me of late last month when Steemit's blog was down the whole day. But to answer your question, it's a very big No, I might take a nap, but not for the entire day. Is it even possible to sleep an entire day? Without the internet, I can hang out more with my friends and the environment by planting trees or going for walks in the forest.
Without the continual distraction of the internet, I will certainly feel a lot more relaxed. It will be easier for me to set my priorities straight and productively spend my time, instead of allowing it to pass by unused. In truth, the internet is a very useful tool, but it can also become addicting by capturing your mind on a certain level, holding you back from what you could be truly capable of physically.
There are a handful of activities I can do with the internet just for a day. Activities I can do include watching movies, as I have a lot of movies downloaded on my mobile device.
Another activity I can do include having fun-filled moments with friends around me as I am currently in the NYSC orientation camp for my one-year compulsory youth services to my nation.
And in camp, as most Nigerians who have gone to this orientation camp, is aware, is filled with a lot of activities, which even hinder us from using phones most of the time.
Not forgetting the collection of books I have to read on my device.
I experience internet failure daily at my current location, as my network providers responsible for granting me access to the internet are always fluctuating. Occasionally they might be experiencing some form of maintenance which may restrict me from Internet access, while other times, the network just disappears for no reason.
The other mean of restricting me from the use of the internet is when I lack a data subscription as the network providers here use Mast coupled with data subscription to ensure that their users gain access to the internet. Occasionally, we still experience this even when we have data fully loaded but can't access the internet. To be frank, this is frustrating most of the time.
I've pondered over this for some time now, still pondering about it and have yet to get a conclusive end, but I think the best way to use the Internet is the use of Wireless Fidelity (popularly known as WiFi). WiFi is a personalized wireless protocol that gives one access to the internet. WiFi uses radio waves in allowing users to exchange data and it can be used widely with any device and place.
Internet interruption can be a very frustrating experience but as much as the internet is now an inevitable part of human existence, we shouldn't allow it to get the best part of us whenever there's an interruption unless it could be termed an addiction. There are several other vital things we can do that don't necessarily rely on the internet alone.
