The memorial honors the countless people who died in the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence. Syed Mainul Hussain, an architect, designed the National Memorial, which was dedicated on December 16, 1982, a day recognized as Bangladesh's Victory Day to mark Pakistan's victory. The force surrendered to combined Bangladeshi and Indian forces, ending independence. The symbolic design of the monument embodies the nation's struggle for freedom.
There are a total of seven triangular buildings, each representing a distinct phase of the Liberation War.
Six additional, smaller structures that stand for the six different geographical regions of Bangladesh surround the main one. It has a museum where you can see photos, relics, and records of the Liberation War. It will give an idea about the history and sacrifice of that time. Every year on December 16, Victory Day, people from all over Bangladesh come to the National Memorial to pay their respects and honor the freedom fighters who gave their lives for the freedom of the country.
A total of 34 hectares (84 acres) make up the memorial and its gardens. In addition, another 10 hectares (24 acres) of tree-lined green belt surrounds it. This monument honors the achievements of all patriotic citizens and freedom fighters. The grounds are divided into seven triangular-shaped minarets, one for each of the seven phases of the Bangladesh Liberation War. There are fifty-two language speeds that distinguish each of these seven levels.
