What a difference it is from September when I was Steemit Curator. Instead of more comments, this has dramatically decreased, especially the good and somewhat longer comments that benefit the author and others who take the time to read an article, and like me the comment section.

What happened? Why is no more effort made to invest a little more time in a few fellow Steemians? Is it really too much effort to write something? To get in touch with those who are on this platform? Who knows, you might find a few friends or people who can help you out if you need it. Have you ever thought about that or is Steemit just the cash cow where you quickly earn some money and then call it a day?

I admit that I also find it time-consuming to keep commenting and staying in touch with others and it can indeed be bitter that when you respond there is simply no response.
That happened to me a few times today. I saved the links of these people because I thought they deserved a vote. They provided not only creative but also good commentary. To my amazement, I saw that none of them bothered to give a reply, not to me but also not to others who responded.
Coincidence? I don't really believe in that and of course, there can be thousands of reasons why someone doesn't respond.

Let me tell you that I have the same thousand and one reasons, but I still try to be there and I plough through many notifications every day to at least provide an answer, even if it is so short. Funny that some people succeed and others don't.

What else has changed since September?
The creative field seems to have reached a low point and what there is is rarely rewarded and if so, it is the same few people. Where are the rest? Have you all stopped?
@rashid001 what about you? @sbamsoneu I read your interest in scribbling (I'll answer you later) join in, who knows, you might be a natural talent.

The many comment contests also seem to be struggling.
@liasteem (see @steemladies) currently has one and it's easy: take a picture and comment and then respond to the others.... Exactly, and that's where it goes wrong. How is that possible?
Strangely enough, it wasn't a problem in "Monkey Business" at least as long as the topic isn't too steemit-like and you can play it safe or am I wrong?
In knack4buzz everything is at a standstill, how sad is that? Entertainment never felt like my thing but all the plans that were there were great the only thing missing was support. If you promote a community as supportive, you are supposed to actually do that. Too bad, this is not the case and with that the comment contest, the Photo Story Contest, the out-of-the-box contest and the short-film-review contest have also disappeared. Even the first scribble drawing contest of @tezzmax could not save the sinking ship.

Again the question is why no one responds. Is everyone scared, and fed up or is the attitude "oh well, if it stops here I'll just go to another contest or community or writer"? In the latter case that sounds abusive, selfish and then I slowly start to wonder whether the entire upvote system should not be overhauled. Only together can we keep this platform attractive but also make it attractive for others and without responses that is not possible.

@patudoh and a few others say that Steemit is a family. If that is the case I wonder why the largest part of the family is not looked after and is ignored. Does anyone have a detailed answer to this that I can work with?

(@grebmot your answers are always great, who knows if you have another one or you @suryati1 or @kafio?)

December is a difficult month for many. Let's try to make something beautiful out of it. Words of support or understanding, a golden tip or a little help make a world of difference.
I have noticed that many have disappeared but also struggle with depression. Have you noticed that too?

#wewrite went for commentary and that turned out to be too much to ask for many, just like it was the case with the SEC game. Strange, how little we do for each other.

I don't have any definitive answers and whatever I got is hard to articulate. Personally I've been feeling somewhat like an old turd surfing the toilet flush. Or like I was cursed with mental constipation and a bad case of hemorrhoids (maybe even a fissure). Either or, I've been sitting on that toilet for far too long and keep pressing and pressing, but I keep pushing air. As a matter of fact my digestive system has grinded to a halt. Granted, something will happen eventually, it always does, nonetheless I'm postive I'll be wiping blood. So I'm anxiously reaching for the toilet paper and hope at least it's going to be fresh.

Sorry for being heavy on the scatalogical analogies, but now the damage is done and I'm not able to unflush that toilet. In all seriousness though, I think the lack of engagement is just part of the general psychosphere. War, famine, pestilence, death. Not necessarily in that order and more like a general vibe. That and the ever decreasing attention span of the digitally demented, scrolling headlines on their smartphones without ever reading the articles. I don't blame them either. Heard somewhere insanity is really just a natural response to an unnatural situation. Like being bombarded with endless amounts of information, on top of just living regular life. More or less. More less in my case, which is why I'm writing long wided replies in the first place.

In terms of technical issue I'd say steemit tends to be a little too complicated. Or at least there aspects that aren't exactly newcomer friendly. imho one way to do it would be to make commenting free of charge, but that's just be me spitballing. Generally speaking though most people wouldn't even know how to buy crypto in the first place and they're making it harder each day. I was converting some of my steem the other day and it took me like half an hour and I had to use like 10 different passwords and keys. I'm probably doing it wrong, but then that would underline the point. I don't know how to do it right.

And if you did not smile this is an eyeopener for the Steemit Team

Thanks!

I was looking into Blurt on the side a while ago and concluded it's even worse, as an example of on what not do. Turned out that everything costs money, even looking at your wallet it seems. I made a few cents with some comments but then realized I couldn't even claim my own rewards because I was out of juice. This might keep the bots out, maybe, but you also limit your user base. For me that fruit isn't worth the sequeeze. Like you can't make everything about money and then wonder why everybody is just treating it like that. Not talking about you Kitty, I mean those kind of sites.

I starte at weku. No idea if they still exist it was the same abracadabra as here although easier to post and comment but no way to lay hand on the weku (they didn't pay out back then).
There are more platforms working this way but I have strong doubts if it fights bots. Steemit had an easier way to buy/exchange but those ways are gone. I used blocktrades.us but it gave up because of all those rules. There was also one before that (I forgot) but I believe I had to swap twice as well. It was the first time I tried with the help of a Dutch lady explaining to me how or what and she was surprised that I asked and didn't know after more than a year (perhaps longer) on this platform.

I never was active on Blurt only heard people talk and praise it into heaven (or perhaps they got paid for it if I joined) and next I heard they didn't do well. It sounds more like a short program like noise.cash once was which I joined for a blue Monday but it brought me nothing. Kind of fake X idea

I remember that as I started here I could:

  • post once,
  • read 24/7,
  • leave about 2-3 comments
  • upvote 10 times
and that was it. If it comes to it its enough to start with and prepare for the next post (I always write offline) and think about what to answer. What I was warned for was to only redeem the rewards once per week or month because that takes SP so setting it immediately is a waste of SP so is editing content (takes SP as well).

This is how I worked (see above) and still work (except I post in the end which isn't a good idea) and it did give me time to find the right people to engage with.

you can't make everything about money and then wonder why everybody is is a good one to remember (don't worry I wasn't thinking you meant me) but here we also see the other side: even if money is offered people don't show up so what is left is your other options.

flushing the toilet is hard?
boiling water in the pot for 15 minutes
1 cup baking soda
1 cup (just hoppa in the toilet) vinegar

You talked about bitvavo in the other post. The german domain was taken down a while ago. To their credit they handled it like gentlemen, but it still illustrates a general vibe of uncertainty. Fair enough I guess, it's crypto. Then again that's why I'm pessimistic about it going mainstream, because it's a pain in the ass (the kind not even baking soda and vinegar will fix). Like those mandatory hostage videos meant to validate withdrawals, just to receive a snotty response inquiring your financial intentions. Is this a prank? No, that's just how "licensed" exchange operate now apparently.

On a happy note, bitvavo got reinstituted eventually under the hype umbrella and gave their old userbase a bonus, but the future remains uncertain. Nobody knows what kind of 1984 wannabe Brazil horseshit might be legislated tomorrow, and so it goes. Just waiting for a spit sample and that pubic hair super magnification validation app. But I'm rambling.

I'm using mexc.com to sell steem. Basically you're just exchanging it into USDC but german exchanges don't like it so you've got to exchange that into something else, too. At least it works. For now.

PS: The thing about using a handler. Fuck that! Maybe those were well intentioned offers, but that's setting yourself up to get scammed. A while ago you mentioned the rights issue regarding sub ownerships, I think context of creating one. The original creator goes away, you take over and invest a lot of time, then the guy comes back and just claims it. Someting like that, right? That's what this reminds me of.

Apakah saya berkomentar terlalu banyak? Maafkan saya mungkin inilah pendapat saya yang paling aneh

What should I answer? Maybe I am too busy with my world, as a housewife of course I will not ignore my family, as a government worker I am also responsible for my duties.

Maybe I have to divide my time with other things, I also need money just like others, at home when I get home from school I don't sit around without doing work.

Piles of cloth, dirty dishes that I haven't washed, not to mention other little things that take up my time.

Should I complain that I am tired? .... oh no .... that is very embarrassing for me to say, I continue to enjoy my life with all my busyness.

I also have to make money directly friends, even though I only get a little but I am very grateful.

At home I also process various foods that I will sell to make money, so I call it a money-printing machine for myself.

Frying crackers, making ice lollies and some other foods that I will sell at home and at school, I do all that so that I can earn and help the family economy, that's more or less my daily life.

I also keep trying to write, comment as much as possible, I am very happy to be on this steemit platform because I can connect with many people.

Not only among friends from my own region but even abroad, sometimes I really like to comment and also participate in contests if there is material that fits the theme, but if there is something like what I experienced last month, I better avoid it.

I will look for contests that I can participate in, I am also not a person who is very good at technology so sometimes I am hampered because I don't know how🤭.

Thank you @kouba01. The discussion continues. Let's see what lives among the Steemians about the topic.
I wish you a great day/evening.

Not enough time to read it all, but... Are you on Discord?

It seems to me that if the comments are made for their own sake, then they are worth nothing. With pressure and too much insistence on active commenting, you may generate reactions in terms of quantity, but not in terms of quality.

I see it as the authors' responsibility to arouse interest among their readers and thereby provoke comments. That is real, lively interaction. As long as comments are made primarily because it's part of the terms and conditions, I hardly take them seriously as such...

I don't see reactions in terms of quantity you? Do you see a difference if you compare the months you curate? If you ask me always the same people comment. If they are busy it's shorter but you can easily find back in the comment sections of an account who always does and who doesn't.

Comments are always made for your own sake if you like to see it this way or not. If you comment you show your name and a part of yourself (idea, thoughts, opinion, a part private life, a link (like) you name it). I agree with you that the author should see it as his responsibility to attract commenters and the only way to do so is: engagement (commenting yourself - not that that always works out besides the system counts comments like "thank you" and "ok" as well so it looks great in steemworld.org or wherever you check).

Another point is: Why on earth would I comment if I always receive upvotes from SC01 - SC09 even if my post is shitty or a copy--paste from a different post? Why bother if the rewards are paid anyway?
I am sure you know like me where most votes go to (countries/continent + people). Is this coincidence? I doubt it. No way they promote themselves better than others I know. Many of them rare write a comment unlike what @patjewell did (the already forgotten Steemian).

Provoking comments is indeed the only way because if it doesn't "hurt" the average person isn't willing to ventilate.
That being said we know what to post in the future to attract attention even if no one (dares) to comment.

Good talk, thanks for stopping by.

YES, it's always the same people who comment. Sometimes some of them disappear - good people leave, you yourself mentioned quite a few with depression and similar problems. Other good people move on. I can't complain about good and successful interactions! And only these, the intrinsic and spontaneous ones, are valuable (for me). If, on the other hand, I have to make 5 comments to be allowed to take part in a contest myself, my enthusiasm is... minimal. If I have to comment to prove that I've read other people's posts, I feel like a primary school pupil. Yes, that's exactly what the Steem has become in large parts. My little ‘island’ is barely touched by it. It works. And it is either voted on or not. So what... ;-))

Well, I took part in a contest and didn't comment. I didn't feel to it and the only reason I joined was because I noticed there was hardly an entry so I thought what the heck, wrote, invited a few.
@liasteem who hosted it told me: you should comment on three others if you want to win. I replied: I don't need to win, I just joined because no one did, to make it more visible. (you didn't reply on that @liasteem or did I miss your answer?)

I am not sure if it's about proving you read others, to me it's more (If it comes to posts) that everyone (hopefully) has someone who said something (we all need a bit support now and then). If it comes to a comment contest it's also nice if there's a topic to be discussed if people read another and jump in, correct or share or whatever.

I agree Steemit is indeed a school (How is your first Aid doing?) if you give in to every step asked although I see here changes as well. I means the newcomers have it way easier than 1 year ago.

I believe there's a huge difference between your little island, my little island and the average Steemian's little island.

You are an SR since many months, you receive a huge SP support from SC01 and know that if you post a report or something else there will always be a reward.
The average Steemian doesn't have that luxury and only hears: you have to do this, you have to do that, you have to be smart, you have to write good content and if, if if.. you will be rich soon on Steem.

Back to Steemit and rules: don't you believe this year changed a lot? The newbies, no club forced upon, the burnsteem25 mindset.

We can work on the "more freedom in writing and let go of the templates" and also the "resteem" and "upvote me if you want to win". Every rule can be deleted but what remains is the problem:

That no one will tell newcomers or those who joined in the past 3 years what the need of using your upvote is (it's a way to promote yourself without saying a word) and how connecting with others can help you to receive higher rewards. Both seem not to be important especially not with the present system.
I find it a pity that commenting isn't rewarded more because those few good ones indeed will give up sooner or later. Not because of the lack of rewards but the investment of time and the fact that a reply is getting rare. In my experience, most do not want to invest in relationships just like in real life which is totally fine but don't get mad if no one notices and upvotes you.

Of course I see changes. I welcome many of them, some of which I helped initiate myself - my Team Freestyle was the first curatorial team in 2022 that didn't have to observe any conditions when voting. And we were good ;-))

But first and foremost, I see something else: people are being ‘recruited’ here with the prospect of making money quickly and easily. That's an outright lie. Most of the people here on Steem are not regular writers, authors or bloggers. Most people here are not interested in networking either. Most of them have existential fears and would do anything to alleviate them.

Humanly only too understandable. From an artistic point of view, it's the death sentence for a blogging platform.

I have been out from this platform for a whole 3 years, when I left I still run the comments encouragement program with few fellow steemians in steemsae community, but now I did find it's not that interesting anymore. I don't know why?

As you say, if someone leave a comment on your post, if you can't reply longer because you're limited to the power or language, at least you can say thanks and comment back on other's posts. yeah it's time consuming though, but it's fun somehow.

remind me to our old war when the engagement league still there, no?

Do you know that I saw your name on the first of December again in Discord? LOL My child was deleting all the names for me and asked who you are and I told her.

If it comes to SEA I believe not much was going on and @aneukpineung78 lately took over so it sounds to me that he might love to receive a hand from you?

I returned at the end of 2023 so I am back since a year now and during this year a lot has changed. Many very active Steemians are taking a break, or perhaps left, and a few old ones are back.

I am glad you are here and if you like to read more you can have a look at the SCB Monkey Business community @hive-120695.
Here you find all kinds of topics of what's going on, questions asked and many of these topics are also asked in the "Monkey Business" comment contest I host in the community {Steem for Better life](https://steemit.com/trending/hive-153970).

I believe language is no longer a barrier. Some use web browsers translating and there are who add a translation or use a built-in translator. I copy-past in Google if deepl.com refuses.

I do believe that the average Steemian has changed and it's post, earn and leave.
For sure you remember @paulag and I was part of the comment coin project but commenting is and remains hard. What the others write here can be true, or a mix but my believe is that if it's not rewarded likewise posts everyone will see it as a waste of time.

Since September (the last time I was curator) I see a huge fall of good comments let alone replies. I mean if someone takes the time to answer you and write a long text just an "ok" is not enough I you want to see them back.

Unlike back then today there's no need for a fellow Steemian to upvote you, at least that is how it feels to me.

A great evening dear. I hope you have a great time and Steemit will bring you fun. For sure you find your way.

If you have a tip or like to start something let me know. You have my support.

Thanks for the explanation @wakeupkitty.pal, LOL... we're in CCC with @freedomshift back then. I remember @paulag and somehow, she sets an auto vote to my posts on bee thing. I left my discord abandoned for the last 2 years after I left my job with splinterlands. But now, Im back.

there're many things to catch up with and I will try my best to read and learn about the "new environment" of steem for now. I do write in Bahasa just to get myself used to the platform, so i can make a post with a style dangit, that 5.2 achievement is a past for me. I'll be around and come to you when I want to know more.

Have a blessed evening to you too!

We wouldn't give up!

Then you better start writing more. Just a few words doesn't do the trick I'm afraid. Not if it comes to promoting yourself, being noticed takes time. It's also important to share a bit of you. BTW you can always add to your comment of 100 words a sketch. I am happy to read you as well.

I hear you but I just find it difficult to reply your content most times.

That's a good answer and I am satisfied with it. Feel free to answer someone else. I know how to find your comments and replies.
