Steemit Engagement Challenge | Season 2 Week 4 | My Involvement in Acts of Kindness

in hive-153970 •  3 years ago

Hello Steem for Betterlife, it's yet another wonderful contest organized and the engagement challenge ends. To be kind to others is part of our humanity, so when we see people in need we jump at the opportunity to help them. Kindness must not be direct. It can also be facilitating someone way to achieving something, it could be giving a advice or or even just making someone laugh. But I think the best form of kindness is touching someone directly in a way that ha/she cherish forever.

My Acts of Kindness

Teaching My Niece Handicraft

My niece is in class six. This is the final class of primary school before you get into secondary school. In this class you write public exams like the common entrance and first school leaving certificates. So when you are writing common entrance, you are not only texted at book work. You are also texted on basic cooking skills and handicraft.

Some days before the art session of the exams my niece didn't know what to do in the handicraft department. She can plait but she isn't fast so time could catch up with her. She needed to find something else to make. My 10 year old niece was practically panicking and that's when I stepped in.

After learning how to make origami's, I have been learning how to make more so I decided to travel to Douala where they live and teach her how to make an origami.

The one who needed the lesson is the eldest in orange. Her younger sisters just saw the fun we were having and decided to join in. Anyways she picked up fast and learned how to make a butterfly that night. When the time for exams came she made her origami and good a good grade. I am so happy I could help her because maybe if I didn't step in she would have found a hard time looking for what to do.

Visiting and Orphanage

My friend wanted a proposal on how to spend her birthday different this year and we all agreed on giving to the less fortunate. We did not want to go to an orphanage that is already established and has alot of support. So we looked for one which is still small so that we can support it. After alot of asking, we found the Mountain Kids Orphanage at Bokwango, Buea (location).

The orphanage is small and more like a house with a caregiver but it's big. We got the children of the orphanage some necessary needs like sanitary pads, toilet tissue, salt, detergent, seasoning cubes and laundry soaps. They were so happy to meet us. They sang for us, they prayed for us and we're very open with us.

When we left that place we had a very fulfilling and refreshing feeling inside. The smiles on the faces of the kids made my day. I am happy I was part of the activity.

Giving My Internally Displaced Cousin Some Lessons

The Anglophone crisis in my country Cameroon has affected the lives of people very negatively. Those who have suffered the most from this crisis are those in the villages or country side of the south west and north west regions of the country. Some have lost alot of not all of their loved ones while the schools in those areas have been shut for 6 years now meaning the kids don't go to school.

In this effect many people have sought out ways for their children to get an education somewhere else. Those who can't afford places of their own send the kids to family members. So my cousin, his name is Praise is an internally displaced young 12 year old boy who hasn't been to school for a while. His mother who is my aunt pleaded that he stays here with us and my family agreed to take him in at our house in Bonadikombo, Limbe.

So while Praise is here waiting for the next academic year to start I took upon myself to teach him a few things. In our house our mom trained us all how to cook, be you boy or girl. So I have been teaching Praise how to cook. I have taught him two meals, fried spaghetti and egusi soup.

Praise has been out of school for a while so I usually tutor him at night. At first it was hard but the young man is a smart boy so he picks up quite fast. Now he can read, his handwriting is getting better and he is trying his best to be able to spell.

I feel happy when helping Praise out because he is very much willing to learn. He is shy and doesn't know how to interact, his English isn't really good so I help him with all those things. So I just do my best to make sure he becomes better.

CONCLUSION

As much as helping others is a choice, I'll recommend it be made a habit. We receive by giving so we should help others and attract more blessings from God. Also it fulfils us as humans when we stretch out a helping hand. Kindness is never too small. Any little way you can to show kindness do it because even the little things matter.

I must say that you have really done some commendable acts and I appreciate you for that. visiting the orphanage always tops the list of places I feel everyone should go when they want to give to people who need it the most. I would be thrilled to know how you arranged the pictures in the box too.

I just entered the contest also, link here to drop your opinion on my entry
