We spent a few hours at the Bosque del Apache wildlife refuge in Central New Mexico this week (where we had been volunteering a few years ago).
After a drive around the refuge loop we relaxed on the desert arboretum garden near the visitor center to rest among the beautiful plants and multitude of birds (including several noisy hummingbirds).
Of course, the most beautiful were the cactus that were beginning to be in full bloom with showy flowers that brightened the rocky garden and are a magnet for the bees 🐝.
Not all were in flower but soon these fat buds would also be sharing their beautiful blooms.
What a great day that brought back happy memories from our season there.
Try to visit the Bosque if you are ever on New Mexico - it's south of Albuquerque just off Interstate I-25 in San Antonio.
