Hive is controlled by a bunch of shady characters who forked the chain because they feared losing control when Justin bought Steemit Inc. They are not nice people and very vindictive. There is a good possibility that Steemit was sold because the owner didn't know how to handle the situation where he had lost control over his enterprise.

Someone else said that to they had lost control of Steemit so they made a fork so they could take full control 😂
