It's that time of the week again. Dipping back into the ol' well of art and this time coming out with this portrait study I did a while back as a class demonstration of photoshop painting. Took about 3 hrs to complete.

This was one of the ones I liked. It can be a bit nerve racking to paint in front of an audience with a time limit but you get used to it. I'm hoping an evolution of the Communities feature will be Sub-Communities that I talked about here. I'd love to have a Sub-Community in OCA that is just for Art Education.

When I look at what we have here with Communities and extrapolate where it will go with scale, I think sub-communities or some further filtering system will become more and more necessary.

On a separate topic, lots of community members have reached out to me inquiring about helping with OCA. This makes me super happy. When people share their concerns with me, or offer help, or warnings, I interpret all of this one way...that they care. That they care about making this place better. That they care about making it a success.

While we all might have different ideas about HOW to make it better, as long as we're on the same page that that is the ultimate goal, I'm confident we can all work together towards it.

So if you see what's being built here and want to get involved, feel free to use me as the blueprint. Don't wait for permission. Just start doing whatever you think will add value. That's what I've been doing on Steem for years and one of the things I love most about it. As just a regular user I've been able to have an impact. Over lots of hard work, patience, repetition, cooperation, diligence, and stubbornness, things are starting to take shape. This is only the beginning.

Let's all work together to make something great.

Amazing to achieve such quality in just three hours. Your students must be well pleased to get to see that step by step.

It looks really nice! I make drawing workshops, so I know the feeling to speak jn front of many people and show some techniques.

Jeez I used to find it nerve wracking enough when I was livestreaming and I never have much of an audience (I had someone fall over me once and did the follow thing, then someone more popular dragged me into a group stream because they liked doing things like that sometimes, and we all did the follow thing, I haven't been on Picarto for a while x_x). Time limit on top of that would be killer, don't think I could ever be a teacher XD

Amazing portrait! You captured his expression perfectly. Have you done oil painting traditionally?
I also agree with you that it takes a lot of hard work and a passion for what you are doing to eventually start seeing results.

Thanks @iansart! Yea, I've done a lot of oil painting in the past. It was how I learned to paint.

All artists and "who we want to be one" should support this community, it belongs to everyone and if it succeeds and becomes one of the main ones, it would be gratifying for everyone, and much more for you who have struggled to get there. ;)

Your work is amazing and simply WOW!!! Create this in 3 hours? what level <3 <3 <3

Thanks @yanes94! :)

Wondering: do you use a Wacom tablet?
I got a small one, just gathering dust. Am more of a 'unplugged' sort of artists, when it comes to painting or drawing. Except I use details of my work in Photoshop to create designs for merchandise.

I used a Cintiq, which is just a fancy Wacom tablet. It's where you paint directly on the monitor.

Thanks, I just had a peek at what Wacom is offering now. Should I sell another painting, I might think of getting one. The Intuos I have is just a cheap toy I thought - I had a different one before then which I gave to my son. It was better than the Intuos by far, but I can't remember the model anymore. They don't make them anymore.

If you want to dip your toe in before taking the plunge the newest iPad with the pencil is a good option.

Midlet for non-president 2020!

By the way, now that you mention it, what kind of smaller things could a person do to contribute to OCA? Thanks :)

Curate the contributors, engage with the contributors, onboard contributors, like if you see some awesome art on Steem but not in this community, let people know, "Hey, there's a Community for that". If you know any artists outside of Steem let them know about OCA, hmm...those are a few things off the top of my head :)

Okay, I get what you're saying. I will do my best to help OCA, starting with what you suggest. Thank you for the tips. I never really considered how I could actually help grow any projects on steemit, so I'm stoked. This is going to be great!
