A nearly complete Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-Rex) skeleton was auctioned for USD31.8 million or approximately IDR 469 billion. This figure also breaks the world record for the sale price of dinosaur skeletons.

Christie's Auction House, as the manager of the sale, said that "Stan" (the name of the frame) was initially predicted to sell at around $ 8 million. But it surprisingly sold for nearly four times the original estimate.

The skeleton was named Stan in memory of the discoverer of the fossils named Stan Sacrison. He collected the fossil of the T-Rex dinosaur in 1987.

The head of the Christie's Science and Natural History Department, James Hyslop, said it was one of the best specimens ever found. The T-Rex's skeleton is 13 feet high and 40 feet long and consists of 188 bones.

After going through the auction process for 20 minutes, finally the skeleton was bought by an unnamed person. So reports the New York Times .

Quoted from Fox News , Thursday (8/10/2020), previously the T-Rex frame had also been auctioned. In 1997 a T-Rex skeleton named Sue was auctioned off for $ 8.36 million. Then in 2017, Chicago's Field Museum replaced Sue with another land animal called the Patagotitan Mayorum.

A study published in 2019 revealed that this dinosaur had a rigid skull. Meanwhile, other studies suggest the T-Rex may have "AC" in its head that keeps it cool while hunting.

The world's largest T-Rex was discovered in Canada in 2019 which is named Scotty. Researchers estimate that it is 42 feet long and weighs up to 19,400 pounds.
