According to a statement from the Singapore Foreign Ministry today, the facility was coordinated after a telephone conversation between Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Si Muhyiddin Yassin and his Singapore counterpart Lee Hsien Loong.

The two leaders met yesterday to discuss the phased connection of cross-border travel between Singapore and Malaysia.

The Two-Way Green Route (RGL), which will assist cross-border travel for key business and official purposes between the two countries, must be based on strict adherence to COVID-19 prevention measures.

The issue related to public health is still being discussed and needs to be agreed upon by both countries.

The Periodic Travel Rules (PCA) will allow Singaporeans and Malaysians who hold long-term immigration passes for business and employment purposes, to return to their respective countries periodically on vacation.

They will be allowed to return home after spending at least three consecutive months in the country where they work and will be allowed to return to the country of work after the holidays.

In the phone call, it was understood that Hsien Loong emphasized Singapore's commitment to solve the problems of its citizens and Malaysians who used to commute frequently between the two countries.

The two leaders also agreed that any bilateral understanding must adhere to public health protocols agreed by both parties to protect public health and safety by taking into account their respective medical resources.

According to the Singapore Foreign Ministry, details of the RGL and PCA operations are being detailed between the two countries, which will continue to discuss other proposals to facilitate gradual cross-border movements.

It aims to help both countries achieve the economic stabilization process of both countries affected by COVID-19.
