The country's Moto2 rider, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah survived after being involved in a horrific accident at the start of the Austrian Grand Prix (GP), today until the race at the Red Bull Ring-Spielberg Circuit had to be shortened to 13 laps.
The incident initially occurred after Moto2 class leader Enea Bastianini fell with her machine in the middle of the road before Hafizh who was unaware of the accident failed to dodge and hit the Italtrans Racing Team rider's motorcycle.
The motorcycle ridden by Hafizh was seen shattered and the Openbank Aspar Team rider soared in the air.
The accident also involved several other riders, namely Andi Farid Izdihar (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) and Edgar Pons (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) before the race had to fly a red flag following the incident.
However, Hafizh was reported to be conscious and only suffered bruises on several parts of his body.
Openbank Aspar Team boss Gino Borsoi said: "Hafizh is in good condition, with him only getting bruises especially on the hips but is in a conscious state."
Meanwhile, PETRONAS Sepang Racing Team Principal, Datuk Razlan Razali also confirmed the same.
"Hafizh is in a conscious state and only has bruises. Other than that it is OK. (Hafizh) is still in the medical center for observation," he said.
