Having a dog can provide health benefits, both physically and emotionally. The benefits of having this pet range from reducing the risk of heart disease, to helping detect lies.

Most dogs need to run and play to stay healthy and active. That's why pet owners inevitably have to participate in physical activity with their dogs.

A study in Western Canada found that men and women who own dogs walk regularly about 300 minutes per week, while people who don't own dogs only get half as much exercise.

Regular exercise is known to provide many health benefits, one of which is helping you lose weight. Well, just playing fetch with a pet dog using a ball or stick can increase your heart rate and help burn some calories.

Meanwhile, for mental health, the benefits of keeping a dog are believed to be effective in dealing with stress. Various studies have shown that dogs in general and therapy dogs can help reduce stress and anxiety.

Not only are they loyal friends and good guards, dogs can also help detect lies, you know. A research team at the University of Vienna, Austria found that dogs can sometimes tell when people are lying to them.
